    43 Nations Creating "Mediterranean Union"

    43 nations creating Mediterranean union

By ANGELA CHARLTON, Associated Press Writer

PARIS - More than 40 nations home to 800 million people were set Sunday to join in a Union for the Mediterranean, a vast though vague body its boosters hope can nudge this disparate and conflicted swath of the world toward peace and stability.

Israeli, Syrian and Palestinian leaders were among those attending an unprecedented gathering on the River Seine in Paris. Coping with age-old enmities involving their peoples and others along the Mediterranean shores will be a central challenge to the new union.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy urged nations around the Mediterranean to "learn to love one another rather than to continue to hate each other and wage war."

Membership of the project is open to all states that border the Mediterranean, all members of the European Union, and some others. They represent a total of nearly one billion people.
The French Foreign Ministry said leaders of the following countries were attending: Albania, Algeria, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Britain, Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Latvia, Lebanon, Libya, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Mauritania, Monaco, Montenegro, Morocco, the Netherlands, the Palestinian Authority, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey. The only leaders not attending were Libya's Muammar Gaddafi, a vocal critic of the project, and Jordan's King Abdullah, who said he could not come for personal reasons.
U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa were also attending.

I'm not a big fan of the French, anyway its seems they're doing expenssions but I'm not sure if this is very constructive method.

Talk about choking on my cornflakes when I heard this on the BBC the other morning! If this goes ahead, it'll be a nightmare. It will excellerate immigration into Europe, it won't merely be a trading bloc it will expand into the social sphere, just like the EU with the increased Islamification of Europe. Fair play to Gaddafi for snubbing it. I've always had a regard for Libya.
Call me paranoid, but I think this is one step closer to the New World Order.

    ...
The French Foreign Ministry said leaders of the following countries were attending: Albania, Algeria, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Britain, Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Latvia, Lebanon, Libya, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Mauritania, Monaco, Montenegro, Morocco, the Netherlands, the Palestinian Authority, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey .
    FTW ?!
ALL EU members ? Most EU countries don't even border the Mediterranean .
All the countries on bold above are all Germanic , and all of them don't border the Mediterranean. Sweden ? Denmark ? Isn't Scandinavia a bit too far away from the Mediterranean ?

    It's ridiculous . Even geographically.

They needed some symbolic word that connects Europe and the Near East. So, choosing the Mediterranean sea was really a marketing decision.

The Mediterranean Sea, North Sea, Baltic Sea and Atlantic Ocean are all connected, lol. Well the Neo-Cons and Liberals want an American Union, composed of the USA, Mexico and Canada, so be scared.

Anyway, yeah its just an extension of the European Union, am sure it has do with big Oil & Israel.

    EU 'should expand beyond Europe'

Foreign Secretary David Miliband has suggested the European Union should work towards including Russia, Middle Eastern and North African countries.

Mr Miliband urged the EU to use "soft and hard power"

He said enlargement was "our most powerful tool" for extending stability.
In his first major speech on the UK's relationship with Europe, he said the EU would not become a "superpower" but should be a "role model" for the world.
It could be a "model power of regional co-operation" dedicated to free trade, the environment and tackling extremism.
He said the EU must "keep our promises to Turkey", adding: "If we fail.... it will signal a deep and dangerous divide between east and west.
"Beyond that we must keep the door open, retaining the incentive for change and the prospect of membership provides."
Mr Miliband made his address at the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium, where Baroness Thatcher delivered her famous warning against "some sort of identikit European personality" almost exactly two decades ago in September 1988.

    (...)
"In the way it dispenses its responsibilities around the world, it can be a role model that others follow."
    David Miliband British foreign secretary
