Study: Frequent Masturbation May Prevent Prostate Cancer

Men who frequently masturbate appear to have a lower risk of developing prostate cancer, Australian researchers have reported.

Researchers from the Cancer Council of Victoria found that men who masturbated more than five times each week were a third less likely to develop the cancer.

The study surveyed 1,000 men who developed prostate cancer and 1,250 men who did not, between the ages of 20 and 50, it is reported by PlanetOut.

Researchers told the BBC last week that the prostate produces one of the fluids involved in ejaculation and that frequent masturbation appears to flush out carcinogens.

I truly think this is a very interesting research, and while I was reading it came to me that those people who observing and also those men, women and girls who're thinking of observing '' The Law of Chastity? But I'm very sure the only positive things about observing the law of chastity is that, the female were able to avoid unwanted pregnancy, abortions, and ect but still these men and women could take precautions. Sometimes I have been approached by groups of believers whom argues relying on church doctrine saying its a sin to have before marriage. Sometimes I feel shocked because being young and told its a sin so guilt tripping down as bad person or evil saying, I am to be for no good reason. Although these people knew nothing about me, but also on the contrary the above research article indicating otherwise about the prostate "Men who frequently M..... appear to have a lower risk of developing prostate cancer, Australian researchers have reported.

So here the question is about sin and guilt versus health!

Sin doesn't come into it, everyone knows masturbation or "self abuse" as it is more properly called leads to blindness and insanity.

    This is very ridiculous.

It is well-known that certain types of cancer are highly related to infection by certain sexual diseases during one's life, even if they are cured with medicines later. The presence of the disease can somehow cause the cancer years later.

What this study suggests to me is that the men who masturbated were not engaging freely in sex while the non-masturbators were. Those who engaged freely in sex were then much more likely to get a sexual infection like syphilis at some point in their life. The presence of that infection then set the way for cancer later. Those who were not having sex with low-character [sometimes diseased] women never got these diseases, and so they got this cancer at a much lower rate.

So it is caused by sexual lifestyle, but not by masturbation: By whether one had sex with diseased partners or not.

And one final note: Mr Barack H. Obama Jr's mother died of ovarian cancer, the female cancer associated most with having had Sexual Infection(s) in life.

Could you explain, then, how a woman who was a virgin (someone I knew) died from cervical cancer?

If disease were the only cause, there'd be cures for all sorts of cancer. Stress is another prevalent factor. So are underlying metaphysical beliefs. Men who grew up believing that masturbating was a sin, f.e. could be vulnerable to prostate cancer because of that type of upbringing interfering with their quality of life.

As far as the research goes - and I am being rather sarcastic - it figures that an Aussie came up with such findings.

I am no expert on what causes cancer, but I do know that Sexual Infections are highly associated with certain cancers. Definitely people without ever getting one of them can still get the cancer, but the chances are much lower. Some people are (sadly) just very unlucky. It is like Lung Cancer, do people besides smokers (and miners) get it? Yes, but much, much less.

it's a stress reliever.. and since stress causes other illness' why not masturbate, help to prevent cancers?
i'm sure there's great pleasure in it as well.

According to some health care providers masturbation allows a healthy way to express and explore your sexuality and to release sexual tension without all the associated risks of sexual intercourse. Health professionals generally agree that this private touching is a natural, normal mode of self-exploration and sexual expression. Unfortunately, after the excitement of the moment has passed, many people find themselves filled with guilty and or shame.

Why all this guilt and shame? Actually, from American History

A little bit of American history:
Our attitudes about masturbation have deep roots for sure. Around the turn-of-the-century, some adults were so against masturbation that they forced their daughters to wear gloves made of a steel-wool-like material (like Brillo pads) at night and to put a powder on their genitals that made them painful to touch. They made their sons wear metal chastity belts at night that made it painful to have an erection. During the 1820s, some parents prevented male masturbation by piecing the foreskin with a wire and soldering the ends together. Boys and girls were discouraged from masturbation by the threat of blindness, madness and illness. Of course, none of these masturbation-induced maladies proved true.

The subject of masturbation was taboo years before the United States was created. All kinds of chastity belts and other devices were used to prevent masturbation, probably as far back in history as you can go. This will vary from culture to culture.

    Brillo pads? no thanks!

I agree that it was an exaggerated way how people were treating their children in order to prevent the from masturbating.
But I think it's ridiculous, it's a stress reliever? what man is man who can't control his own "horses"? Come on!, go and start playing LEGO if you're so stressed, rather something constructive, than having a fake sexual experience. For me masturbation is a kind of perversion of sexuality (in a slight manner), its as much "artificial" as using sexual "toys".
The true reason of sexuality shouldn't be degraded to the experience of orgasm or physical satisfaction, but a deeper experience of love with the partner.
There are two examples, while masturbation usually is a "race" where you're trying to reach the "goal" as fast as you can, on the other hand making love is a "journey" where the "road" itself is the goal, not necessarily "reaching the top".

It is not a stress reliever, it is a polluter of the mind and soul and causes degeneracy. It is scientifically proven that it radically affect's people's mind.

Researchers took a group of people and divided them into subgroups. One group was shown massive amount of pornography for one hour every day over several weeks. One group was shown it only for a few days a week. And one group was shown regular movies (control group).

Here are the results in how the three groups answered questions on their opinions afterwards:

The more pornography which was viewed by the person resulted in:
    * Decreased value placed on family life/faithfulness - graph
    * A decrease in the desire for children (especially desire for girls) - graph
    * Desensitised to sexual violence (rape) and favouring lower penalties for rape - graph
    * "Normalising" promiscuity - graph [also see first graph]
    * More in favour of sexual perversions and/or thinking they are normal - graph
    * Decrease in self-esteem - graph

[Graphs from "Effects of Prolonged Consumption of Pornography" {PDF}, conducted by Indiana University (USA), 1986.]

Pornography hurts societies badly by altering people's minds.

Of course masturbation is a stress reliever. I remember when I first discovered that my penis did more than pass urine; you couldn't remove me from the bathroom for hours on end.
My early teenage sulks became near non-existent until the onset of drugs came into my life.

Masturbation helps you explore what turns you on and what your limits are; it helps you control your release of semen during sex so therefore increasing your stamina and pleasure for both concerned.

It may have its downsides like the study showed, but I do think the world of pornography is a degenerate piece of sexual fantasy which has warped the minds of our upcoming generations. Perhaps my very own generation.

    Masturbation is very natural.

Masturbation is for curious teenagers and for those who "aren't getting any". I prefer the real thing.
