    I would never keep butter outside of refrigerator ... and inside temperature is rarely over 22C.

    For the long-term and in higher quantities, I store it in the fridge. I keep however smaller quantities outside. We use butter for breakfast and sandwiches/snacks often, so it does not have enough time to go rancid. Spreading cold, hard butter on our breakfast toast isn't very appealing to us. When properly covered, is okay to leave your butter at room temperature for a couple days. Since it its content is low in water, butter is able to resist contamination by microbes for this time. There are a few caveats however: the butter must be covered or kept in a butter crock that will protect it from both air and light. When left at room temperature, salted butter fares better than unsalted, as the salt content also makes it less prone to bacterial growth. To play it safe, simply keep out just the amount you think you'll use in a few days, then replenish if needed.

    Over all ... I have gotten feeling that different kinds of marge/margarine products are more popular/more commonly used in Europe vs in USA?
    Pure butter has lost its position this side of Atlantic Ocean ... while last decades.

    Yeah, all the hip ads that sell you a lifestyle instead of a product

    But seriously, there's nothing better than real butter. After my journey through the variety of allegedly "healthy" but highly processed magarines with high amounts of unnatural fat, I returned to butter. Pure taste.

    It usually sits outside the fridge, kitchen temperatures are significantly lower than say our livingroom, only while it was so hot the last weeks/months it had to be cooled, otherwise it would have become a liquid But usually it's outside, ready to use.

    Although there is one occasion when I prefer butter from the fridge, which happens about once per year when I feel like having sweet breakfast with Brioche and some marmelade topping. While it takes a bit of careful working to get the butter in a fairly thick layer onto the bread without destroying it, it's tastes just sooo great.

    Also without the marmelade on this type

    I keep it in the refrigerator. Butter is made of dairy, and dairy can spoil quickly. For breakfast I usually take it out when I set the table and it's just the right consistency for spreading by the time the bread is cut.

    Butter is kept in the fridge. My mom likes whipped butter and keeps some butter in the fridge and extra sticks of butter in the freezer.

    One thing that confuses me is eggs. I always thought they had to be refrigerated but I was in a small store once where they were kept at room temperature. Supermarkets always keep them cool.

    Then there is ketchup. I like it refrigerated but some restaurants have it sitting out on the tables at room temperature.
