Should Foreigners Be Allowed in National Sport Teams?

I was thinking about this now should foreigners be allowed in national sport teams?

Here in the Netherlands we have and always had quite a few foreigners in our national football team, now we also always had quite a good team but i was thinking that some dutch players dont get a change because of the foreigners that are better then them.
Now what do you think? should foreigners be allowed in National football teams or go for our countries to the Olympics, vote plz and tell more about why you think it should be allowed or not.

I vote no, i think a dutch national team should play with dutch players, english with english players and so on.

No, because then it wouldn't be a national team, would it? ,-,

They are foreigners by nature, so not like us, ergo they shouldn't be on our sports teams. I don't think it's bad for them to participate in sports, but it is bad for them to play sports representing the nation (or state as it may be).

I have had this same conversation with my brother a bunch of times. No, the national teams should not have people from other nations on their team. And if I had it my way if you were not German you couldn't play on a German team, etc. What's the point of watching the English national team if most of the players on the field are Africans?!?! France is the worst though.

It's about here in the conversation where everyone in the room makes up their minds that I am racist.

Honestly, the whole competition and rivalry between nations can't be taken into full advantage when Spain has a star English player and England has Somalis. What's the fun in that? I was told that it is really all about money and I am sure it is. The teams trade off players here and there and it doesn't matter where they go.

Actually, I think it would be awesome if every region of a nation could only pick players who were born in that region. That would make things really interesting.

No in my opinion, foreigners don't represent my country. No matter how many generations they've been here for, they are not true Germans. It's a national team, so only members of our nation should play there.

OK I do understand where you're coming from if you said no, but from a sports perspective, I tend to be liberal. In order to win for the glory of your country, I personally believe you must make a few exceptions. Let's get real here: many players on the sports teams that have a foreign background are extremely good. Also, the vast majority have a strong connection to the countries they are playing for, such as having a parent from there, or being a completely integrated citizen because they lived there their whole lives. I don't see why they shouldn't be allowed to play for the country they feel the closest to. So, I don't think 1st generation citizens should play; only citizens with foreign blood that have been naturalized for more than 3 generations. I guess that's a typical American answer though, given our situation.

A national team comes out for a certain nation, to represent that nation in sport events. Just like a national army fights for a certain nation. Therefore it is most likely preferable that members of said nation for that team. Says something about a nation if it's natioanl sportsteam is completly comprised out of athletic mercanaries.

We have alot of Black players in the National team, and yeah noone can say that they are bad in playing the sports but i think there are enough etnic players in the country that can play for us.
Farmer boys dont even try to come in teams anymore because the youth teams are already full with turks, blacks and yeah alot of nationality's, i played myself for the Rotterdam Feyenoord youth team when i was younger i was actually one of the only white kids in it.
So i think if just every country blocks foreigners on there team, it will be interesting to see the World Championships and Olympics.

I don´t think that foreigners should be allowed in national teams. The name is "national team" after all, not "multiculti club"...eyes: *sigh*

The German soccer team has improved a little bit, we have no regular black player in our team anymore (a difference to the WM 2002 and 2006). It´s a "white" team, but we have Kuranyi (iranian? descent), Klose (schlesian descent...some say polish), Podolski (polish descent) and some less other non-german players. Most of them are of European heritage, anyway.

If you don´t know about their heritage you would state that they are German because most of the German soccer team is "Europid white" currently. And if the team is playing with 11 men, 7-8 of them are native German. So the situation is not as worse as in other countries.

There was a friendly match between France and Germany around one year ago. I found it too "funny": The whole German team was "white" (with mostly German players) while the biggest part of the French team was black. There were only two european exclusions on their side.

My dad said: "Interesting, Germany is playing against an all-African potpourri! "

Hmm yeah we have here also a other problem, because the most Black players on our team are from the Dutch antilles so basicly they are born in the kingdom of the Netherlands makes it harder to change.
And guess thats also the problem for france there are certain locations, countries that are from france still and those people belong to France then.

Now i want us to ban the Dutch antilles from our kingdom so that could change it fast

I don't think so...doesn't that defeat the purpose of a "national" team?
