us Europeans regressed with our armour, the Romans used plate in the late stages of their empire why didnt our Nordic brother copy the armour and use it, no the Norsemen did not reach New Zealand i wish they had they could have done a better job than the English at destroying the natives.eyes:

the natives of New Zealand would have been slaughtered by the Vikings, i live here and i have seen there "weapons" and fighting styles the Nordic warriors would have stomped them into Nifelheim before they could blink

Technically anyone who fell in battle was eligible to go to Valhall; Niflheim was only those who died of sickness or old age. There are remarks of being chosen by Óðinn in Irish-Viking sources. Just throwing that out there.

the main reason the pom's didn't do a good job was the lack of troops(its a long way ) and the native used tactics that may have been old by the English standard but still affective against the type of attacks the English used in the day.....now if they only had more troops and gun AND broad swords and better melee training(old style by then) it would be a southern paradise for Nordics

No. It says in the article that its possible they came before the polynesian maori. The largest immigration is said to have happened around 1300 where the maori people came from the eastern part of Polynesia and Raiatea in french polynesia is often said to be the departure place.
The maori which earlier eagerly told legends about the white people in the land that was there before them claims now that they were the first.
Most the evidence can be found the maori-culture itself, says Martin Doutré, who has made it his life-goal to prove that there were people in New Zealand before the maori arrived. The maori took over everything when they came sailing to NZ, the houses, terrace, and most of the culture to the whites who was there before them.
Martin has a point, for much of the culture the maori claim to be theirs cant be found in polynesia, where they orginally should have came from.
The houses the maori lived in when captain Cook and the other explores came had nothing in comming with the strawhuts in polynesia - they look in fact more like norwegian stabbur and churces.
Thor Heyerdahl said the same thing when he pointed at the maori woodcaring that is typical on the houses, like you now find in the museum:
    - Its clear that such design with curved lines and motives cannot be found in woodvarcings in french polynesia and that includes also the tall and very old god-poles.

Can translate more from the article later, but im very tired and must get some rest. Im sorry for my poor english, hopefully its understandable.

It's fine to be proud of being European, etc. but credit where credit is due. The Maori were one of the only native populations to successfully resist colonisation and thereby secure a degree of dignity and prosperity for themselves. The Maori have gone up and down a great deal since that conflict, but the fact is this: Britain had her chance to subdue the natives of New Zealand by force and Britain failed. The Maori deserve credit for the achievement. They realised the benefits of European technology far quicker and more eagerly than most other civilisations which came into contact with European powers in that era.

I've heard another argument that the Maori have Chinese blood (and Chinese cultural influence) dating from the Ming dynasty and the voyages of the great treasure fleets.

Either way Maori are still Maori, now a race unto themselves (vis a vis the Anglo-Saxons).

Also, their unique societal development upon arrival in New Zealand is fairly obviously due to the extreme material differences between the sparsely populated, small Pacific islands and the significantly bigger, wooded, naturally diverse, mountainous, lush and fertile islands of New Zealand. New resources, new lands, new animals, new weather, new population densities... these things necessitate change.
“Why is there Being at all, and not much rather Nothing? That is the question.”Martin Heidegger
