^ There used to be a place near Chicago that had very good reproductions of German military uniforms. That was some years ago before the Internet was so popular. You may want to seach them out.

Their stuff was so good that it even fooled collectors on a regular basis.

Also the people in that group may give you some insite as where they get the clothing from.
Life is like a fire hydrant- sometimes you help people put out their fires, but most of the time you just get peed on by every dog in the neighborhood.

Here in the UK my historical mechanical interests take me to certain events such as the War and peace show where World War 2 enactments often take place.

Now I wonder if Germans themselves dress up as Nazi era soldiers to play "all in for war"?
I would imagine most of these dressing as Nazis are actually British, I do have an English friend who does.

Now the thing Iam complaining about is that these re-enactment "German" soldiers seem to think that to be "German", you have to be nasty.
An example being that even when a re-enactment display is not occurring, you can walk around the displays chatting to the re-enactors about thier vehicles for instance and get a friendly responce, until that is you get to the German players who will totally ignore you.

Here in Britain, the WW1 and WW2 propogander that was employed to get Anglo-Saxons to hate and kill thier brothers abroad is still alive and well, these re-enactors I feel are re-enacting the propogander rather than the reality.

I go as spectator to few of these events that also have like a time line military re-enactment. I have only noticed one guy dressed as German acting this way. Most are real informative and want to talk about all their gear and clothing.

The first time I went to WWII re-enactment was very fun. I did not even know about it going on. I was in small town and I seen a whole column of German soldiers go by on what appeared to BMW R-75's( I think ) motorcycles. I followed them and ended up spending the whole day there watching and talking to the people there. It was a good day.

I always thought that these re-enactment groups was just an excuse for fat people to wear army uniforms and cammo gear.
You know, like hunting or blasting off automatic weapons at the range....all those fat people in one place.

Na, not really the WWII re-enactors I seen were really rather thin. They seemed to be very fit.

Niether are people that hunt or shoot machine guns. True some people who hunt my be overweight but not all by long shot. Hunting is very hard work sometimes and very good exercise.

However I seen some very large viking re-enactors in Ohio. Also the guys who do the Scottish highland things seem large.

The largest World War II era re-enactment in the United States with over 800 uniformed re-enactors from 40 states representing soldiers from the United States, England, France, Poland, Russia, Italy and Germany along with 70 to 80 vintage tanks, half tracks and other 1940s era military vehicles!

Midway Village is a 140 acre reconstruction of a small Illinoisian village, all the buildings are their own museums. On Sept 25-26 they have this WWII reenactment (sorry I should have posted this sooner, in case you wanted to make plans) The reenactors set up camp in a forest, and they sleep there over night. And they have a battle in this large field, with tanks and everything. Quite fun.

I'm not sure how many other reenactments they do, I know they also do Civil War, Old West and other American wars.

And there was me thinking Regia did TV work cos 'The Vikings' got ALL the best shows and after "1066 The Battle For Middle Earth", I think we can discount Regia's vaunted authenticity!

Playing at soldier... Once you've done it for real, you don't have much of an interest in putting on a uniform, any uniform, or slinging a weapon...
