    Souvenirs and Memorabilia

Do you collect Souvenirs or Memorabilia from Places you go to?

I don't like buying Souvenirs unless it is Something special like a Folkore Design, Wood Carving. Instead, I like collecting little Things from Nature which remind me of the Places I visited, like Sea Shells from the Black Sea. I like to collect old Postcards and some Stamps from older Eras.

I collect postcards and maps from places I've visited. More so maps. I hang them on my wall because they're cheap, cool wallart. ^^

I also like regional specialities, like ironworking.

If a city or town I visit in another country has its own football team(s), I have a habit of buying their shirts. I presently have about two dozen I've collected over the years from the UK, Republic of Ireland, and the Netherlands. I'm not into standard tourist memorabilia, unless it's from some place that I particularly liked, and thus wanted to have some reminder of.

Since I am 18 I have been collecting the national flags of the countries that I visit. I used to be more of a Europe-trotter when I went on trips with my family but after my 18th birthday I have collected 4 flags and my own countries flag (because I have visited countries more then once).
In my room, over my bed now hang the flags of the United Kingdom (it will depend on the situation whether I will add an English or the US flag this year), France, Italy, the Netherlands and Belgium. Day-trips of course don't count for me so there is no Switzerland, Germany or Luxembourg yet.

I want to see that entire wall covered in ten years

I've got a few things, parts of the Berlin Wall and pieces I got from a mosaic in Pompeii. My favorite is a spoon from Auschwitz, it was confiscated from inmates in the early 1940s and then stored in a warehouse which was burned at the time the Soviets moved in. The stuff there is all encaged now, but my English friend and I managed to snag some good stuff with a stick when noone was looking, he also scored a plate and a cup on the day when I was visiting some old salt mines, though unlike our spoons we are not entirely sure the plate&cup date to the WWII era.

I have a piece of the Berlin wall too. A friend brought it back for me years ago (he went to Europe with his father who was competing in the 1992 Olympics). I also have my grandfather's medals, which have a lot of meaning for me. Unfortunately I haven't been able to travel much - but I certainly plan to.

I was also thinking that maybe if someone would like a postcard from New Zealand, I could send them one, and in return they could send me one from their country. If anyone is interested, message me, I like posting mail.

I don't need to "collect" anything much because my ancestors left me "memorabilia". I have pieces of the Berlin Wall of course, since I happened to live in East Berlin. What I "collect" are products that were in use in the DDR but not on the market any longer. They're a couple of sites and shops where they can be bought still. Much of it are food brands, so it's my stomach that really "collects" them.
