The Magic Of Childhood Is Over By Age 11

Childhood is over by the tender age of 11, research published today suggests.

Parents admit giving in to "pester pressure" and allowing their children an array of grown-up privileges.

Increasingly, youngsters can stay out late, drink alcohol, have sex and watch inappropriate films.

Did the "magic of childhood" ever exist? Personally I think that all it means is the lack of all responsibility, the long summer holidays you remember were only possible because you had nothing else to do, and if that was true now you would find the same "magic" reappeared. Other than that childhood was just irritatingly long, not allowed to go anywhere or do anything without supervision etc, I certainly wouldn't want to repeat mine.

My parents used to allow me to watch inappropriate films at age 11, if you count Hammer Horror as inappropriate. It seems somewhat comical now but I remember many nights being afraid to close my eyes in case Christopher Reed would come swooping head first through the trapdoor from the attic, ravenous for my blood...

As for sex and alcohol consumption, I doubt my parents would be happy to think I engage in either activity even yet...
