    Do We Make a Difference?

Browsing these forums I often wondered. Do you think we make a difference by posting here, by discussing endless topics? Do we learn anything from debates? Have debates changed your opinion or are you only interested in pushing your point forward? Do you manage to push it forward? Is there anything productive coming out of all these hours spent on sites like these in total? What do you think?

I think there definitely is a point to having these sites. I have learned countless things from conversing with and even just reading over the posts of other members on this forum. I won't go into detail at the moment because it would take too long. But I do know that it is refreshing to know that I am not crazy, many other people do feel the way I do. Having a forum where like-minded people can get together to discuss pertinent topics is an absolute must.

I think the best things about a site such as The Althing is that it has boosted my confidence in talking with others about certain topics. Many of my friends and my girlfriend have stated that they would have felt awkward or wrong or racist or just plain un-politically correct to have expressed the thoughts they do now after talking to me. In a lot of ways, that's all it takes to get people to really speak their mind. One person just needs to have the guts to say what they truly believe and others will inevitably follow and hopefully they will pass it on to somebody else. That, in my opinion, is why The Althing is so valuable.

I belive forums like this makes a difference.
I'm not a very active poster and I can't say that I've changed my opinions on any major issues by reading forums like Skadi and the Althing but I've got plenty of ammunition for discussions at lunch brakes at work and at family dinners.
I also like to belive that I've learned how to see through the most common lies about the advantages of multiculturalism and such.

I'm honestly grateful for this forum, and similar ones.

I can't tell the quantitative ratio of hours spent and things learned, but subjectively it was worth the time.
I did learn some very interesting things, allowedly only a few people were the ones who could teach me (), but I certainly did change my outlook on things, when I joined Skadi, I was in favour of democracy :p.

Discussions are lead to find truth, it depends very much on the participants, but in general a good discussion is worth very much.

Well, forums are a tricky issue because some people may fall into the trap of believing that just by writing on a forum, they are making a difference ('net warriors').

That been said, it must therefore be clarified that forums themselves do not make a difference, but people do.
Forums are places to learn, communicate and exchange information that can be useful to us in real life.

Since we live in the age of information, forums are essential for communication between people who have common interests and goals and they can help each other through discussion or advice.
So, yes, they make a difference, but in an indirect manner

I enjoy this forum because it gives me different perspectives in the debates that go on here. Plus, it's also encouraging to know that there are like-minded individuals on here. It's been an experience and I have learned a few things being on here and Skadi beforehand.

Forums like this are a lifeline for people like me, who, after many years began to question his old world view (in my case Marxism/Internationalism/multiculturalism) tried to supress his natural love for his land & people before listening to his heart first, then actively went looking for answers. Forums like The Althing show me that you can love your heritage without promoting hatred or genocide or mean siding with any ruling elite. Thank you moderators and posters, sincerely!!

Good question, I think there is a huge possibility we make a difference, in others reading what you have to say, maybe makes them more open to ideas, or maybe points out something you didn't know.

    I know I have learned a lot of stuff I didn't know.

Some debates have changed my opinion or gave me a new outlook.

I have been thinking about this for a while... And my conclusion may seem bleak and depressive...

No one makes a difference. We are born - we live - we die.

Regular people like us, will never make a difference. Some tend to believe that whatever decision we make, will echo through eternity, but in truth, it is forgotten.

We are nothing compared to eternity, but hey, who cares?

We make the difference in our own lives, what we do and what we say are two parts of what defines our personalities. And for good and for bad, do we make a difference for someone.
And we all makes a difference by posting in forums. Some enjoy the high-brow parts, to learn more of whatever interests they got. And by sharing your knowledge with other, and receiving knowledge, makes you more wise or smart or whatever.

While others just wants to be social and have a good time with people.

    I love forums! :p
