Actually I just had to look up how exactly a third cousin is related to oneself. Does not really look taboo for me, the genetical linkage is minimal. In tribal societies there is probably no way to be related less than that.
And all my youth passed by sad-hearted,
    the joy of Spring was never mine;
Autumn blows through me dread of parting,
and my heart dreams and longs to die.

    - Nikolaus Lenau (1802-1850)

Real misanthropes are not found in solitude, but in the world; since it is experience of life, and not philosophy, which produces real hatred of mankind.

Quite a bit of genetic differences between 3rd cousins so shouldn't be anything taboo about it. Sure is alot better than screwing your brother or sister. Not that I am speaking from experience. Sickos.

well, just like I consider uncles by marriage to be family, I would consider distantly related cousins family also. We are not living in trible societies and I'm sorry, I just can't see family members as anything but family, and I consider it weird to see them any other way

I don't consider it wierd at all. Meh, maybe it's because I hang out with the Mennonites so much.

I don't see any Problem either with Third Cousins. Also Couples of Third Cousins were quite typical within the last Centuries. And it seems like that those Children back then were much healthier than they are now.
I'm not saying it's because not many breed with their Third Cousins. Nowadays it's probably because People consume too much Poison everywhere. I just wanted to point out that they didn't breeded any Cripples.

The most People don't even know their ThirdCousins. After a while it would be absurd to say "Eww, i'm related to him/her."

That's just as absurd as if somebody says "Sorry i can't marry you, you have the same lastname as i do." Because Everyone with the same Lastname (aslong as it's no Lastname that carries an Occupation or something similar in the Name, because they were given randomly) has also a certain degree of Relation to another Person with the same Lastname.

Marrying First Cousins are a Tabu and on a Morality Level quite low. But Third Cousins?

It may still be a taboo, but it is quickly eroding:

I don't think there is anything wrong with marrying your third or fourth cousin - I don't even know mine. I've only met my second cousins a handful of times in my life, and there is a chance I wouldn't recognise one if I walked past him/her on the street today.

The fact is, your fourth cousin will not be genetically more similar to you than a person selected at random from the population at large! So even a DNA test is unlikely to be able to tell that you are related to your fourth cousin.

A third cousin is someone who shares a set of great-great-grandparents with you. Everyone should have 8 sets of greatgrandparents if none of their parents or grandparents married cousins. Iceland was founded by a relatively small group, numbering in the thousands. As recently as 200-years ago the population of Iceland was around 25,000. So most persons in Iceland are related to each other within the last 10 generations & persons living in small Icelandic villages are probably at least 4th or 5th cousins to everyone else in the village.

The same thing is true in rural areas of industrialized countries (the so-called First World). It is the base for all incest jokes.

I also get the impression that incest is a bigger taboo in most tribal societies than in modern mass societies.
