    Favorite Germanic Dinners

What are your favorite Germanic dinner/lunchtime foods, sides and snacks? It doesn't matter if it is traditional or not; name any! Point is for us to talk savory

I can't think of many right now, but to start off:

    Saucijzenbroodjes/Sausage Rolls (Dutch)

    Kroket (Dutch)

Sauerkraut (German) I had to mention it. It goes with almost anything and everything.

    Cottage Pie (English)

Being not that much of a meat lover, I do enjoy those German meat-based plates from time to time but I don't appreciate them as much as meditteranean cuisine.

However, I do love Sauerkraut and Kartoffelsalat , swedish meatballs, and most salmon-based swedish recipies.

I also like germanic desserts like lemon pie, apple pie, rasberry cheese-cake, Apfelstrudel, Schwarzwälderkirschtorte, as well as swedish kanelbullar and almond cakes.

p.s. help me here: what is the name of that german christmas cake that is coated by a hard, glossy material?

Edit: I found it. It's a marzipan cake

My grandma's friends from Ladis (that's where my father spent his childhood) used to send us a Marzipan cake every Christmas, among other germanic goodies.
As a child, I was waiting impatiently for Christmas to come in order to sink my teeth in that mouth-watering delicacy

I was about to post pictures of WienerSchnitzel, Rosti and Spaetzle but I was too slow. I also am quite fond of everything Salmon, saurkraut, pickles and potato soup.
Here are some others I like.
    Herring& beet salad

    Pasties

    Rutamus(mashed rutabega & potato)

    Dutch pea soup

Limpa rye bread is good but not as good as potato rye with no seeds or peel

    Pinnekjøtt

Pinnekjøtt is salted, dried and sometimes smoked lamb's ribs which are steamed, usually, but not necessarily, over birch branches, and served with potato and mashed rutabaga.

I love those potato slices fried in onion and bacon.
If in Hamburg on a Sunday, take a visit to the free Fishmarket where you can see how much better the German social arena is compared to the English, no generation gap at the Hamburg fishmarket where rows of tables are set out with all ages sitting together, listening to the free rock bands playing whilst eating the mentioned potatose and eggs fried along the sides in huge frying pans!
