    Favorite Foods?

A good hot steaming bowl of sausage and potato soup with black bread, real butter and beer. Wienerschnitzel ala Holstein with red cabbage and spaetzel comes in a close second.

As Autumn gets closer I like to think of nice hearty meals like this

Beef Rouladen- a beef roll with onion a pickle and spices. Served with rotkraut that has been simmered with tart apples and made from scratch spaetzle.

Just remember it is not Rouladen without the pickle.

note* that does not look like spaetzle in the picture, but fried potatoes
Life is like a fire hydrant- sometimes you help people put out their fires, but most of the time you just get peed on by every dog in the neighborhood.

    When I was younger..........

My dear Old Mom would make Hassenpfeffer, sic? from the rabbits we, myself, my father & brothers would hunt.
I haven't tasted that in 20 years, since she has died.
It was great with the poatoes, fried with onions in them.
She made great sourbratten. And we had sauerkraut on the table a couple times a week, along with the warm German potato salad and sometimes schnitsel.
She'd make home-made spatzle, and a soup she called "rivula soup".
    Ahhh........the Memories.

    Tea and toast.

Bit of an Englsih thang really, but such an underestimated little meal that rings all the right bells......and to top it off a bit of peace and quiet and a new book to read.

Looks good. My father would make Rouladen when I was a kid. I'm going to have to make some. They all look good. I'm hungry...
