The meaning of life is to grow old under the steady guidance of your parents, meet the Woman you love and want to settle down with;settle down.

Life then becomes your mission to repeat the guidance of your own children to maturity.

You then die..............I still prefer the answer 42,though. :p

This sounds so Emo. Why listen to your parents?

I was hoping somebody could tell me.

This is a pretty personal thing, obviously. I'm not sure I've articulated it to anyone before, not even my mother or best friend. What it comes down to, for me, are three things. At least, this is what I think at the moment.

    1. To achieve a state of continuous serenity akin to "Nirvana" or "Zen". To be contented even when the world around me is, to the best perception of bystanders, "falling apart" is important. To have only positive reactions, assertions, and thoughts as my Nature is important. To measure value only in positive terms, to let things only be more or less beautiful, is important.

    2. To establish a steady and constructive energry flow to and from my entity. To be able to easily discharge energy with a purpose, allow it to go out into the world and do my bidding, and to bring it back to me to nurture my soul is important. To be able to influence my environment on all levels--physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, social--is important. To breathe change is important. To influence is important.

    3. To have children. It is not so much my ethnic qualities, but rather the genes that grant me the capacity and will to believe as I do that are important.
Polygamy: it might not be for you, but what right do you have to keep it from me?

I doubt more and more if there even is meaning to create in life. Some people feel the same, but find the journey of life important in itself (see Epic of Gilgamesh). Even that might just be futile, absurd even.

    I don't think it sounds Emo :

You should listen to your parents, and indeed all your grandparents, advice and reasoning when growing up.
They are your guide till you are old enough to take responsibility of your own life.
I wish i had listened and respected my parents more as a young child, but that is an example of the state of our modern culture....to undermine what is taught to us from mouth to mouth, generation to generation.

Whenever i hear people wondering about what life means,i always think what life really is all about for every living creature on this planet. That is to survive and procreate so as to carry on your genes.

Well for me personally: it's to do something that will be remembered long after my death by my ancestors.

    Cattle die, kindred die,
    Every man is mortal:
But I know one thing that never dies,
The glory of the great dead
“Providence has been pleased to give this one connected country to one united people, a people descended from the same ancestors, speaking the same language, professing the same religion, attached to the same principles of government, very similar in their manners and customs-Jon Jay, Federalist Papers

Life has no purpose so we give it our own.

I don't have one at the moment.
