    Do You Own/Wear National Costumes?

So do you own/wear national costumes? If you wear them, on what occasions?
Did your parents give them to you, did you buy them or tailored them yourself?
Do folks in your area wear national costumes? If yes, when and where?
What is the meaning of national costumes to you?

In order to build Odinism into a valid and inspiring religious expression we must overcome this tendency to trivialise divinity. The gods are not Vikings…they are spiritual beings, potent forces of numinous power"

No, but I like to experiment with clothes and create dresses inspired from the old Germanic ways. Not quite like in the avatar, but something similar. I browse ancient Germanic reenactment sites to get my inspiration from there. I have seen some good reenactment links on this site (from which I got my current avatar) which I will also use to tailor myself some Germanic clothes.

So do you own/wear national costumes?
    Yes.

If you wear them, on what occasions?
To festivals, parties, or when I feel like it.

Did your parents give them to you, did you buy them or tailored them yourself?
I've received several from other people. My mom paid for the ones I actually wear, if that counts. She and I sew together a lot, and we've taken in Traditional costumes for me, but not sewn them from scratch, yet. If one wants a real Traditional costume around here, as opposed to some mock-up sluttified holloween version, one must get it custom tailored.

Do folks in your area wear national costumes?
    Some of them.

    If yes, when and where?
Festivals, dance recitals, any cultural events, really.

What is the meaning of national costumes to you?
Just a part of culture/heritage. Whenever I wear a dirndl it reminds me of pictures I've seen of my Oma in them. Makes me feel like I know all of my relatives who died before I was born.
Polygamy: it might not be for you, but what right do you have to keep it from me?

I live in the metropolitan northwest of Germany. We don't have that here. And there is nothing more silly than folks wearing regional folklore outfits of cultures they have absolutely nothing to do with.
And all my youth passed by sad-hearted,
    the joy of Spring was never mine;
Autumn blows through me dread of parting,
and my heart dreams and longs to die.

    - Nikolaus Lenau (1802-1850)

Real misanthropes are not found in solitude, but in the world; since it is experience of life, and not philosophy, which produces real hatred of mankind.

So North-Rhine Westphalian Germans have nothing to do with German culture? : I'm talking about German folks wearing costumes of their folklore, not Negroes or Turks.

Besides, I think men in Lederhosen are hot.

Provided they wear the proper size, I agree. Very much so.

Trachten are a southern and southeastern thing, or basically something rural. Northrhine-Westphalia is an artificial soulless creation by yankee and Tommie occupational scum. But Rhine Prussia had no Tracht so wearing Lederhosen here would be both inappropriate, ahistorical, gay and probably would get you beat up pretty quickly.

How would I know since I'm a Southern thing, even worse an American one.

Don't know about NRW but they've got Trachten in the North too, so it's not a Southern or Southeastern "thing".

    Schaumburger Tracht

    Schaumburg is not really north.
