I voted Norman Bates, but it looks like I accidentaly cast a vote on Jason also :p I spit on Jason, so my vote doesn't stand :p

I generally dislike the teenage 'costumed serial killer' theme. Norman Bates, on the other hand, was a deep, multi-dimensional character, with very interesting unconscious psychological processes being at work in his case

I'd go with Christopher Lee in his various incarnations of Dracula + the Wicker Man.

Vincent Price was always very creepy as well.

In the last 20 years, Blair Witch was just plain scary. That sticks out in my mind the most. The Descent and Feast were great horror movies the past 5 years, but neither had a single villain.

Just like Aeternitas, I like subtle horror films not the typical ones where some man/thing goes on a killing spree just because he wanted to. The basic concept of the nightmare on elm street was very original but most of those films sort of sucked with the exception of the "New Nightmare" film where it was revealed that all the prequels were merely fiction and Freddy enters the real world to murder the actors.

Sorry, but the moment the film starts you know it's supposed to take place in the real world and the rest is pretty predictable.

Well, you just took the most famous horror movies... What about all the classy slashers around the world?

    One of my absolute favourites:
Ray Sager as Montag the Magnificent in the 1970 motion picture known as:

    The Wizard of Gore

A little famous quote from that movie:

"Yes! I am Montag. Master of illusion. Defier of the laws of reason. What is real? Are you certain you know what reality is? How do you know, that at this second, you aren't sleeping in your bed, dreaming that you're in this theater?"

    Yes... This is brutal stuff.

PS: Quote found on Wikipedia, as I was unsure as to when this movie got out.

These kept me on the edge of my seat

Michael Myers scared the crap out of me growing up.

    Hannibal movies were twisted!
