Probably to be expected, given that the price of transporting products has increased with the price of oil, and now makes up a larger portion of the total cost of something.

Heh, I knew that from my first 7 dollar hotdog I ordered. Hell I think it was more expensive than that. Crazy prices but good for them. Makes it harder to be exploited though it's all invetable in today's era.

The minister states that lack of competition and an oligopolitic environment are responsible for high prices.

Does Iceland share this business climate with the other Nordic nations that round out the top ten most expensive countries? Yes, but why?

Such a state of affairs is the result of policy. These nations can bear the load because they are prosperous while at the same time having among the world's lowest rich-poor divide.

Maybe it's this way because Nordics aren't greedy.

There is some talk about Iceland taking up Norwegian currency as to stabilize the economy.

http://aftenbladet.no/utenriks/92963...aa_Island.html Den islandske økonomiprofessoren Thórólfur Matthiasson mener norske kroner må innføres på sagaøya.

I think its a much better choice than taking up the euro

Yes it probably is... Norway has based all their money relativly safely... Oil, fish, technology.. etc...

Maybe the Icelanders could work in the Faroes we are still the European country with least amout of uneployment. And we also have based our ecconomy on reeal values. Experts say that we will not take any big effects of this crisis...

Why would Norway do that though? Wouldn't that hurt their currency? Norway can afford to have a strong currency since most of their exports are things like oil, fish, and other natural products that can't be moved to other countries and there is steady demand for, whereas I imagine they have to import nearly all of their manufactured goods and food.

    Icelantic debt.

I am realy against Iceland being taken over in any way! so i think it´s positive that the brothers in the East are helping the Icelanders.

I think that IMF and other entities will bring Iceland to even greater debt by lending them money. I think that a more humane conditions will be if they lend it from Norway, Denmark or even Russia.

If Faroe Islands was bigger and had more money we would undoubtfully also lend money to Iceland.

Russia has not been evil possessors of Iceland in the cold war as some propose. I´ve talked to some Icelanders who see Russia as a freind.
