    Re: Germanic tribes

    Hi, Siegfried.

I believed that Germanic had been a real identity for name Scythians. Because I have get researched on the google.com: http://www.ensignmessage.com/archives/ancestors.html

Germanic peoples should have name real Scythians. Their old land was Scythia. Romans assigned to Scythians the name Germani. Why do they changed Angles, Saxons, other Germanic tribe names?

Who's who? Which belongs to Which?

Thank you for all of your very helpful posts with lists and maps. But the one thing I haven't yet come across, is a list of tribal names that belong to a larger group. I've only seen smatterings of this, but not a complete list. Is there a website with a list of which belonged in which group?

I am also curious to know which tribes fought other tribes. I know the Franks conquered four other tribes, at least. But which tribes fought with the Guttones/Gotones/Goths, for example? I only know that the Gepides were a form of the Gotones/ Goths. Did they have battles with the Burgundians, Rugii, etc?

I understand that there was a lot of migration happening in Europe and Asia, but what was happening to the Goths/Gotones/Guttones around the first and second centuries AD. It's a period where little is known, probably.

Can anyone shed some light on these three points? Thank you!
