Morrissey 'refuses to live in the UK because of immigration explosion'

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/liv...n_page_id=1773

The pop singer Morrissey claims he can no longer live in a Britain he believes lost to an "immigration explosion".

The former frontman of the Smiths, who is now based in Rome, claimed England was just 'a memory now'.

The 48-year-old added: "Other countries have held on to their basic identity yet it seems to me that England was thrown away.

"The change in England is so rapid compared to the change in any other country.

"If you walk through Knightsbridge on any bland day of the week you won't hear an English accent.

"You'll hear every accent under the sun apart from the British accent.

"The British identity is very attractive, I grew up into it and I find it quaint and very amusing."

In 1986, when The Smiths released their critically-acclaimed album The Queen is Dead, the UK had a population of 56million.

It now stands at 60million and some predict that could almost double by 2081.

Morrissey's comments were made in interviews with the music magazine NME.

In the mid-1990s he was accused of racism after wearing a Union Jack on stage and releasing the songs Bengali in Platforms and the ironically-named National Front Disco.

    Smiths star in racism row

    Smiths star in racism row

SINGER Morrissey has sparked a racism row by saying he won’t live in Britain because of the “immigration explosion”.
The Smiths legend, who hails from Manchester but lives in Rome, claimed: “England is a memory now.”
And he moaned that Londoners speak with “every other accent under the sun” except British.
Asked if he would consider moving back here, Morrissey said: “Britain’s a terribly negative place. And it hammers people down and it pulls you back and prevents you.
    Influx

“Also with the issue of immigration, it’s very difficult because, although I don’t have anything against people from other countries, the higher the influx into England the more the British identity disappears. So the price is enormous.
“If you travel to Germany, it’s still absolutely Germany. If you travel to Sweden, it still has a Swedish identity. But travel to England and you have no idea where you are.”
Further quizzed on mass immigration, he added: “You have to be sensible about everything in life. You can’t say ‘Everybody come into my house, sit on the bed, have what you like, do what you like’. It wouldn’t work.”
Morrissey, 48, who is the son of Irish immigrants, makes his outspoken comments in the latest edition of the NME, which condemned his views. He added: “The gates are flooded and anybody can have access to England and join in. The British identity is very attractive, I grew up into it and I find it quaint and very amusing.
“Other countries have held on to their basic identity yet it seems to me that England was thrown away.”
Turning his attention to London – where he plays six dates in January – he added: “If you walk through Knightsbridge on any bland day of the week you won’t hear an English accent.

“You’ll hear every accent under the sun apart from the British accent.”
Furious fans were quick to blast the solo star on net message boards. Slimjim, of Bradford, told one board: “It’s totally out of order. Morrissey sounds like a Tory MP these days. It’s a disgrace. I’ll think twice about buying his next album.”
Anti-racism activists also waded in. Denis Fernando, of Unite Against Fascism, said: “He has shown a complete insensitivity to people and misunderstanding of what Britain is about.”
Morrissey sparked a racism row in 1992 when he wore a Union Jack on stage while supporting Madness, and released a track about immigrants titled Bengali In Platforms.
NME reporter Tim Jones, who chatted with the singer wrote: “He might once have been the voice of a generation but given his comments, he’s certainly not speaking for us now.”

I don't think what he says about other countries being "absolutely German/Swedish/etc." is correct at all. However, I know what he means. London, and more so now; England, is quite a disgusting hole of "cultures", migrants, and wonderful diversity.

I don't know why he said that though. It won't achieve anything to his benefit, or anyone's benefit for that matter except those who want immigration.

    Thumbs Down

Morrissey has spoken out for the preservation of traditional English culture and customs before. People can scream all they want, but let's see them actually refute what he said, eh?

As for the NME hinting at boycotting his albums and shows, why should he care, since he is probably wealthier than all Althing members put together several times over.

(that is, if OEN isn't really Morrissey in disguise)

I'm a Morrissey fan, and find this very interesting. Again, I think this just highlights the fact that it is no longer just the BNP, neo-nazis and staunchly conservative who oppose this mass immigration. Ten years ago, I didn't have a problem with all this, but now me, my family (who have always been very easy going on the issue, particularly as my Mum is Dutch) and almost everyone I encounter feels that things are getting out of hand. I admire Morrissey for having the balls to say what's on his mind. I wish more high-profile people would.

Huge respect to Morrissey for never being afraid to voice his opinions, however much it might effect his record sales - particularly as Morrissey and Smiths fans have traditionally been of the more liberal pro-immigration type. We need more people like Morrissey in the world. I'd like to think that for every braindead NME reader who is digusted by this, there are at least three in support of it.

I think they do have strong opinions on the right.... but we are not ruled by the right anymore . The left have control of the television media -- they seem to know that no one takes too much notice of the printed word anymore. Perhaps it is true that England is lost -- the English ceased to care properly perhaps .... But I don't want to believe it ...........

“If you travel to Germany, it’s still absolutely Germany. If you travel to Sweden, it still has a Swedish identity. But travel to England and you have no idea where you are.”

well he isn't really right-- but England is the worst of it -- because we were the first and 'our Empire was the greatest' :p , so we must bear the guilt of it all!! -- hence they are given the right to move in.......

I wonder if the popstars would stand by the need and reality of a firmer political action. Perhaps some would; but the usual exile is on financial grounds -- they can earn so much !eyes:

.... anyway , the English countryside hasn't yet gone ...not quite!

O Bridie--- I wish it was so simple. If you lived with it year in , year out -- for decades now ....first one side, then the other - almost without relief, then you would understand how despairing it can be. I have seen nationalists fighting the case for years ... they are trumped everytime! they die off defeated....

The BNP has trimmed so much that some "extremists" don't even recognize it anymore. It does have some LOCAL impact -- but as I said , the media rules , the TV craps it and the newspapers of the Tory right cannot play straight with it , because they are trying to help the Tories - often very critically. Perhaps the whole will breakdown -- the terror released so that people really do get angry where it matters. But I don't see it! The Tory leadership now is pretty wet - it isn't even that successful as an opposition. The BNP is trying its best - but thats it! Without a near revolutionary force, there is unlikely to be any major change -- and THIS is England!!!

With so many aliens here -- we are Urban-Swamped - and seemingly doomed demographically.

It is quite significant that a popular musician should be speaking out against it all. Bit of a sea change, perhaps. I never thought much of him, despite our shared Mankness, but I'm glad to see that he's not a blind fool like many of the 'educated' Britons I have to put up with all day.

THey do, but are so desperate not to 'look right' that the practical result when they are in power is not that far from what the left would do anyway. Gods, if they actually said what they thought in a proper bullish enough manner, the masses might actually warm to them.
