I'm not saying it's bad, just remarking on the fact that all Nordic countries have government-owned liquor stores. The whole "Scandinavian system" is this blend of socialism and a limited capitalism.

I know that Systembolaget's prices are much lower than they would've been if it was a private company. Although I don't think 18+ year old single malt is really my thing.

Depends on the individual....the idea of living on some volcano out in the middle of the atlantic where the only highlight of the year is the annual pilot whale cull.........followed by a feast of rotting shark meat washed down with ten quid bottles of beer whilst listening to Bjork isnt my idea of fun.

Call me an Anglo Saxon killjoy if you like but Icleand isnt my idea of a hotspot to set up home.

So what do you like to do then? Surely you can't be an Anglo-Saxon killjoy if you like to have fun? That would make absolutely no sense!

That's great news. But nobody was arguing that anyone should be moving to Iceland; the people of Iceland should be left to themselves and the taint of foreign blood minimized. Iceland's location and climate has done well to protect them up until recent times. It has also imbued them with characteristics that I find admirable and feel the others in the Germanic world should emulate. I'm wondering why you, on the other hand, are so hostile towards Iceland(ers), why you've decided to suddenly re-emerge and take issue with what the article I posted as to say...

Just goes to show that the person who made the list only visited the places mentioned using google earth.......i mean Irealnd above Switzerland.....lol.

Folks, this is terribly out of date. Iceland hasn't been ranked first since the 2008 Human Development Report (around the time of the financial crisis). Norway has been ranked first ever since. The new 2011 report was released just two days ago.

    The top ten of 2011:

    Norway 0.943
    Australia 0.929
    Netherlands 0.910
    United States 0.910
    New Zealand 0.908
    Canada 0.908
    Ireland 0.908
    Liechtenstein 0.905
    Germany 0.905
    Sweden 0.904

It is interesting to note that all but Ireland are Germanic nations.

Finland no longer has much in the way of suicide rates due to them dramatically dropping over recent years.
