I have a friend who's a bass guitarist in this band that I've also seen. They play an interesting combination of black metal/folk. The link is below:

Just remembered two more, Otyg and Lumsk. Sweden and Norway respectively. Both are clean vocals and good vocals at that.

OK, I definitely like Otyg and Lumsk. That girl from Lumsk has a beautiful voice and can really hit some nice notes. So far Otyg, Lumsk, Tyr, Die Irrlichter and Falkenbach are the ones I like best.

Boche, I haven't been able to find any music from Stiklur, Sagentöter, or Waldteufel yet.

In my area, there is a group of Heathen scholars doing exactly that : researching the available historical material and reconstructing ancient Heathen culture based on this historic material and remnants of the past. That's also what many scholars did throughout Europe during WW2, inspired by the wonderful ideology of national-socialism.

Anyway, traditional folk music is as close to authentic heathen music as we can get when looking at modernity. Although most of the known folk songs date from after the adoption of Christianity, some folkish music styles have remained largely unchanged throughout the centuries and therefore indicate how our ancestors sung and danced. This is particularly the case for May Tree dances and other dances that were preserved for yearly rituals.

Turisas and Skyforger are also good Pagan metal bands

Would anyone be able to tell me if there is any decent Heathen folk music - without the ear splitting screams of course? (Mind you, I do listen to some of it myself!)

I will be conducting some rites/blots in the near future, and I would like to find some more folksy type of music that would be appropriate for such rites.

    Cheers and Heil

Most 'Heathen' metal is a load of crap. I've had this discussion before on an Odinic forum, yet keep hearing the same responses.

Heathenry is trendy because bands such as Bathory made it so. At large metal gigs I don't even see inverted crosses anymore, they're all just replaced for Mjollnir pendants.

I try not to support such trends and tend to value music for the musical talent and emotion more than the beliefs that bands endorse.

Everything by Francesca Ortolani is good.
She made a new album called Aufidena - Z80.
