Flag for an Independent England - Which Would You Like?

Those are perhaps the main choices at hand. I think they all have merit, even the Union flag as it is so iconic. Two of them are references to Christianity.

An increasingly relevant subject in consideration of today's political climate

White dragon all the way; it refocuses on our core original culture. All the other symbols are now tainted, the three lions and the George cross are associated with

    a) items of clothing worn by illegal immigrants and ethnic minorities to convince us that they are "English"

    b) being just sports symbols gotten out of a draw during the world cup and then put back again.

    c) chavs, skinheads, beating people's heads in while wearing doc martens.

We need a symbol without preconceived notions attached to it that we can make our own, that we can properly define the meaning of.

It was a joke, I was making this based off the other "all uniting germanic flag" thread.

Looks cool to me anyways :p

@ OEN: I didn't like any of the choices you provided. The St. George Flag has historical overtures, so maybe something incorporating the St George Cross. But by itself the St George is too dull. Oski Von Skadi designed a nice flag but the swatstika doesn't have much to do with England.

As an aside, I assume that OEN didn't specifically mean that dragon flag, as it's a piece of tat but probably the only one available, I think a well made flag with a good dragon design and in a deep red would look really nice.

I love the Dragon, personally. Specifically this version:

We are born to fight and to die and to continue the Flow
    The Flow of our People

Tolerance is the virtue of the man without convictions.

I would support the St. George's Cross; the Union flag, as much as it is my favourite banner of any in the world, would obviously be anachronistic. The White Dragon is a symbol of Anglo-Saxon England, and doesn't reflect the Norman, Dane, Norse, or (dare I say) Celtic forbears also present amongst the English. Similarily, the Three Dragons are a Norman symbol and therefore out for the same reasons. England's current flag is recognized throughout the world as a part of the identity of that land. It holds great significance to the nation's past, culture, and identity, but without being specifically representative of any one group of England's ancestors, and therefore would be the best to represent an independent nation. Though, I remain a committed unionist, and hope this debate is never required.
