    Local Taxes increased by Immigration

Migrants may push up council tax

    dt 01/11/2007

Millions of homeowners face higher council tax bills next year because of the government's failure to keep track of the number of immigrants in Britain, local authorities have warned.

Schools, hospitals and other services are struggling to cope with rapid and uncontrolled influxes of migrants, the Local Government Association [LGA] claimed.

Ministers admitted under-estimating by 300,000 the number of migrant workers in the UK since 1997 . :

**It says that because money allocated to local authorities is calculated by population figures, the government's inability to accurately assess migrant numbers means councils are receiving inadequate funding.

A spokesman for the LGA said that in areas where numbers had risen but statistics had not reflected the increase, councils would have two options: to put up council tax next year, or cut services.

It brings further embarrassment to ministers after a week in which they have already had to admit under-estimating by 300,000 the number of migrant workers who have taken jobs in Britain since 1997, and that more than half of new jobs under Labour have gone to foreigners.

Hazel Blears (!), the Communities Secretary, admitted that many areas faced new pressures but said councils were due to receive funding increases over the next three years.

    further report.

    Councils seek £250m migration funds

    01 November 2007

Hazel Blears says effects of migration [/B]CAN[/B] put strain on public services. ((She really is so clever!! ))

Councils have called for more cash to deal with the pressure placed by immigration on services such as schools and hospitals.

A new report by the cross-party Local Government Association (LGA) called for migration statistics to be overhauled and for a new £250 million-a-year fund to help local public services cope with the influx.

Council leaders said data such as GP registrations, National Insurance numbers and schools census records should be used to give a more accurate picture of the number of foreigners.

It comes after confusion over Government figures stoked a row over the accuracy of official data on migrant workers.

Some councils have complained that the National Census and other figures underestimate their migrant numbers - and because the numbers are used to calculate their finances, it can lead to a funding shortfall. For example, Westminster City Council claims at least 24,000 people were "missed".

LGA chairman Sir Simon Milton said: "Official statistics on how many migrants are coming and where they are going are inadequate.

"The speed and scale of migration, combined with the shortcomings of official population figures, is placing pressure on funding for services like children's services and housing. This can lead to unnecessary (??) tension and conflict."

Communities Secretary Hazel Blears said: "The effects of migration can put a strain on public services, especially when there is a large movement into an area in a short space of time and we recognise that some individual local authorities are experiencing more challenges than others.

"It is important to remember that government has already given significant additional resources - an average 1% real terms increase per year over the next three which will deliver an increase of more than £960 million in the first year alone - to support councils. On top of that we have also announced £50 million to help local communities manage cohesion and promote integration."

    -----------

IF only our immigration had increased by only 1% in my lifetime!!!

Add to this the fact that the number of immigrants will become increasingly compounded due to the stagnation in white British birth rates vs the extremely high rate of births to immigrant families and the issue becomes even more sickening.

Well yes , of course. The whole situation is out of control. For the UK , Migration Watch have highlighted some figures - which recently hit the national press big time! Some of them love to tell it fairly straight -- how is it that the Government is so ignorant? --Its almost as though they don't care for old England !!!

It might just seem like incompetence, but I'm more and more convinced every day that the government is doing a "can't shut the stable door after the horse has bolted act" -get in as many immigrants as possible before people put a stop to it; that way people won't have the stomach for forced repatriation.
