    Question

how many of you use the runes or consult them ?
In order to build Odinism into a valid and inspiring religious expression we must overcome this tendency to trivialise divinity. The gods are not Vikings…they are spiritual beings, potent forces of numinous power"

I more or less use runes in every day life, but I've only casted runes once during a specifically complicated time in my life. Runes should not be abused in the way that modern day "witches" and "pagans" use them. Runes are symbols of identity, the Aesir, and life itself, not some bastardized "magic" that some people practice.

I'm not Asatru and I've never been. I studied the religion for a while, just for the purpose of understanding. I'm very set in my religious niche and have been for quite some time.

However, I do have a set of runes. I don't "cast" them or "consult" them, but I do "use" them and I think that the way in which I do is fine and akin to the original purpose they held.

I usually keep one in my pocket that I think represents something I will have use for throughout the day, so each time I touch it I think of it. In regards to my own religion, the more I think about something the more likely it is to generate. Plus, it's less invasive or embarassing when other people ask about it, than say, one of those lame stones they sell with a concept written on it in English:

Considering stones like that look fruity, cost between $1 and $6(!?!?!WTF?!?! It's a ROCK!), and weigh significantly more than wood, runes are a better choice, IMO. Plus, I can feel what the rune says without taking it out of my pocket to look at it. Serves the purpose better.

Plus, it feels more sincere when it's one ancient representative character and handmade, rather than mass-produced somewhere in China.
Polygamy: it might not be for you, but what right do you have to keep it from me?

I'm very sceptical about this kind of stuff, it would be nice if you'd like to elaborate on this so I can get a better picture of it. How has it worked?

Where can I get a rune? Where do you buy/get them? Or do you have to make them yourself?

You create a greater connection between yourself and the runes if you make them yourself. Plus they are going to be better then buying them. Keep it traditional.

i got my from a Godhi (nordic priest) he had chanted them for me i got two bags one for me and a Sword brother of mine.

Runes predict the future or things to come, they were also used by the Northmen for Protection and in Rituals.

later in the Viking age the Runes were used for writing

I don't actually own a set. I throw down a handful of twigs, to consult. I meditate on an image.

But, I am advised that it's better to make your own.

The more you meditate on them, or work with them, the more they "speak" to you. They sort of "unfold." :-)
