It's good to get people to known - nothing more, nothing less.

But people who talk about falling in love on the internet are simply either naive and retarded or total losers who are desperate of finding a partner in real life.

Harsh words from somebody who met two of his former girlfriend exactly this way but I hope it cured your naivity

Anyways, I do not agree on the statement in general and don't see a reason why the internet should not be a platform for that like any other place

And this has something to do with my comment that people who have cyberrelationships or say they fall in love one a .jpg and typed words?

As i said in my post, it's good to get to know people. But i never did fall in love on the internet, i did when i met them in reality.

Did you spot the difference now?

Where's the difference between a .jpg+typed words and a real life look and spoken words?

For me it's totally fine and acceptable if people do so.

You never know how this person really is. If you talk to someone you can analyze a person. If you write with somebody, you never know if the person is serious or not. If you talk and spend the time with someone in reality you start to build up a symbiosis which can't exist through typed words on a computer.

Most people who imaginate that they get "feelings" on a computer are simply very emotional and easily arrowsed by words. Such people are mostly desperatly looking for something.

For me it's totally fine and acceptable if people do so.
I also accept them, i also don't care what they do, i simply think that such people are naive, weak-minded and stupid.

    Boche

Emotional connections to people on forums? It happens every now and then, on a certain forum in the game that I was playing before I found The Allthing did I have strong emotional ties (as in very close friends) with several people and when they betrayed my trust I of course responded in kind (I had the lot banned from MSN:p). I have always been a bit emotional I guess, just as much temperament as a Spaniard. (so the cool and collected reputation that Dutch seem to have abroad does not apply to me, I am a southener )

For the people on this forum I have a feeling that one would have if he or she were to have a chat in the pub: friendly curiousity. Yes, perhaps a certain friendship because meeting people from who you can actually learn something and discuss politics and culture (and notice that you share some views) is a rare occassion for me. In rl. because of my religious and political views I tend to be a bit of an einzelgänger (as I am disguisted by the state in which my society is in).

It is impossible for me to form an emotional connection with someone I haven't met in person and known for some time.

I have met one, perhaps two people who post here (fellow Odinists).

I guess it depends on the type of forum, as a member of the Odinic Rite I am a forum member but I have also personally met and socialise with quite a large number of the people who post there.

I know a fair few on Stormfront, some Odinists some nationalist buddies.

I don't feel any emotional connections towards members of this forum. I think that would be kind of silly. I'm just here to discuss. If someone from here dies tomorrow, I'm not going to be heartbroken.

Gareth and I do develop emotional feelings for those we encounter over time on forums that involve such serious matters as Skadi. How can anyone who takes life and such matters seriously not truly care for fellow members who are just as troubled about our desperate situation?

Of course we can't provide physical support for people living so far away, but it doesn't mean we don't want to be there for them in their time of need.
Not all in life is at it appears to be.
