A truly beautiful masterpiece by Tiffany: this glass-stained window.

Window by Tiffany with distinctive opalescent glass, asymmetric design and casual combination of flashed, painted and pot metal glass within the formal framework of supporting bars
I want to add a few more.

Gerberviertel (Straßburg- in the Alsace Lorraine.)

Petite-France is an area in Strasbourg, Alsace, France.
It is located on the Grande Île (Main Island), where the river Ill splits up into a number of
canals and cascades through a small area of medieval half-timbered houses and baroque sandstone buildings.
The name "Petite-France" (Gerberviertel in German) was conferred
by the former German inhabitants not for architectonical reasons, but because of the numerous prostitutes working there in the Middle Ages
prostitution used to be known in Germany as "the French business". Also, syphilis was often contracted in that specific area was
then known as Franzosenkrankheit ("French disease").

    Zürich (in English: Zurich)

Zürich ( Schwyzerdütsch: Züri) is the capital of the Swiss canton of Zurich. This particular night time picture gives one a splendid view on the Zürcher Rathaus (Zurich's city hall and former seat of the 17th century Republic of Zurich), which is located on your left. Also clearly visible are the towers of the Grossmünster church-the former cathedral of the city.

Der KdF Wagen (pre-war Volkswagen Beetle- German: VW Käfer)

In 1931 Ferdinand Porsche and Zündapp started to develop the "Auto für Jedermann" (The Car for Everybody) and by 1933 two prototypes where already running. None of these survived the Second World War.

By 1933, the new Chancellor of German, Adolf Hitler, submitted sketches to Ferdinand Porsche for a "Volks-Wagen" (a Car of the People) that would be able to transport two adults and three children on a motorway at a speed of 62 mp/h (100 km/h). Which could be purchased through a savings scheme at 990 Reichsmark (whereas the average workers wage was 32 RM per week.. this was the for the time.. very reasonable)

Before full scaled production could begin.. war broke out and it would take untill after the war for civilian production to resume.

    The Tatra-case

    Tatra T97

At the same moment that the Germans were working on the KdF-wagen, the Czechs were building on a very similar model that actually influenced the KdF-wagen and in 1938 production of the Tatra T97 was halted.. after the war Tatra never resumed building the T97 but became a lorry-building company instead.

Because of the Germans coppying some of the features that Tatra was already using, Porsche was sued by the Czechs and Porsche wished to go for a full settlement.. yet Hitler took over the case and "wished to solve it"... He did: in 1938 he invaded Czechoslovakia.
After the war the case was reopened and in 1961 Volkswagen compensated Tatra for the sum of DM 3.000.000
