    Gothic: A Future Lingua Franca?

I would like to introduce a thread dedicated to those who might take an interest in the revival and preservation of the Gothic language.

    Here's a short introduction:

... and remember: practice makes perfect!

If memory serves, didn't Tolkien used to speak Gothic?
I am Ripper... Tearer... Slasher... Gouger.
I am the Teeth in the Darkness, the Talons in the Night.
Mine is Strength... and Lust... and Power!
    I AM BEOWULF!

Gothic is a hard language. I do not mean to discourage you, but don't you think teaching it on an internet forum will have little to no impact? To become a lingua franca, it would have to be politically and media supported at least. Do you speak it fluently?

All languages are difficult to learn, though, and it does make sense to revive the language. Language plays a key role in cultural identity, and any attempt to regain or maintain a culture without its language is pointless.

But there would be soooo much work involved, such as finding and standadising Gothic words for concepts such as harddrive, carburator and engine.

True, but this is something that has been done with other "primitive" languages. Also, the revival of a Gothic language would (perhaps) result in a societal change that would negate the necessity of certain words. If you remove certain words from a language the associated behaviour diminishes or ceases to occur.

I think Gothic looks like a mix between Swedish and German.
