That was the first thing that comes to mind, too.

However, it would fit well, in row with these:

I still have a bias towards the Teutonic Knight flag, given that I look at a large part of Europe, even to Spain, having some sort of Germanic influence, and as I said, earlier, the Visigoth Kings flew yellow crosses, the same.

And, the problem with non-cross flags is that you're probably looking to a throwback to pagan times, and flags back then were just not that orderly (IMO). I think Christianity has a history with Germanic lands (whether right or wrong), and it's not such a terrible thought to include it.

    Do you have other suggestions?

    Germanic flag contest

Ok, so here's a contest for all those flag designers active here.

Let's design a flag the represents the European Germanic countries (Flanders, Denmark, Norway , Sweden , Germany , Switzerland , Austria , Liechtenstein , England , Scotland, Iceland, Netherlands)

If a flag is good, give the poster a Thanks-sign. Logical, the flag with the most positive reactions wins.

I made a few flags on paint so it dosent look so good. I would like to have some symbol or something in the flag, like an eagle or horse or something.
I tried to combine the colours of the different european countries that you meationed. I also wanted to make the flag look a little bit "fascistic".

The red colour stand for the Wars and the blood of the Germanic/white people.

The blue colour stands for freedom of speech, democracy and the society.

The black colour stand for nationalism and patrotism.

The yellow colour stands for "light", the "sun", or the "hope".

The white colour stands for the White people and Europeans.

TAKE A LOOK... Note that these flags are made on paint and that i dident wasted the necessary time to make them look VERY good.

I like the third flag , the others are a bit complicated.

That's what I thought. Good job on the variety though!

It has in its original meaning nothing to with socialism whatsoever.

No offense, but any obvious association with fascism should be avoided since the very idea behind a pan-Germanic flag/banner is to unite - not to split or divide. Pan-Germanic symbolism must be deeply rooted in ancient Germanic history. I personally tend to support a pagan, pre-Christian approach.

I am not facist, i just sad my flag might "look" a little bit facistic. Your flag is looking nice but it would be even better if you changed the colours. Because right now it looks like the European Union-flag.

Agree. Vingolf, your flag is a flag of the International Paneuropean Union.

The International Paneuropean Union claims to be the oldest European unification movement and is also referred to as the Paneuropean Movement and the Pan-Europa Movement. It began with the publishing of Count Richard Coudenhove-Kalergi's manifesto Paneuropa (1923), which presented the idea of a unified European State.

The stated goal of the organisation is the unity of a Christian Europe, free of "nihilism, atheism and immoral consumerism".[1] It is independent of all political parties, but has set principles by which it appraises politicians, parties and institutions. The International Paneuropean Union has four main basic principles: libertarianism, Christianity, social responsibility and pro-Europeanism.

The organisation was prohibited by Nazi Germany in 1933, and was founded again after the Second World War.

I wonder why it was prohibited. Maybe cause it wasn't pro-Germanic at all? : By the way Kalergi wasn't even European.

I agree with Raven though about the red and black flags, though I think they'd fit for Germany maybe but not for the whole Germanic countries. I'd like a Germania but the flags posted so far suck. Sorry, but it's my honest opinion. By the way the Kalmar Union was a personal union and it included Finns, why would it be pro-Germanic?

There's no way to incorporate all colors of all the current flags of the Germanic countries without making it look like shit. But there's no need to. Like Vingolf I'd prefer a more pre-Christian approach, so what colors the flags got after Christianization is irrelevant, instead I'd look at what was used before that.

"Most surviving shields from the Viking Age are a single color, undivided field, with the most common colors being red, yellow, or black."
    [source]

From the point of view I guess most colors are alright... But I'm not so sure I would want to see a pan-Germanic flag.

It included Finns only because it belonged to Sweden at the time. Not that that matters, the point Vingolf was trying to make is Sweden too has a history of a flag with red in it.
