It was weird learning that most whites will get trace amounts of Asian or African DNA. I went through my pool of 23andme relatives (exactly 100) and 80% (exactly 80) had 0.5% or less of non-white traces. After looking at the reference population averages as given by the Eurogenes guy in a nice spreadsheet, it looks quite normal.

My MtDNA is U4b1b and my Y is R1b. I'm entirely of Northern or Northwestern European descent as shown by the genealogy I've done, regardless of what trace amounts 23andme or GEDMatch calculators give me

Don't put a lot of stock into these DNA tests.

They seem to get the large percentages somewhat correct, but the smaller and trace amounts can vary widely.

I've done three and they don't agree on anything.

For instance, after a year on 23andme.com I suddenly gained a 0.01% Japanese reference, this would mean I had a single Japanese ancestor sometime before 1740. I find this very unlikely.

On ancestry.com my results matched 23andm3.com (minus the Japanese), until they sent out a User Satisfaction Survey.

After the results were analyzed my British Isles/Western Europe percentages totally flipped. Think about what this means, Ancestry.com based they analysis on the customer's opinion of what their ancestry was.

FTDNA mostly agrees with 23andme.com results, except they have some small Southern European percentages the other's lack.

This tells me this is mostly smoke and mirrors.

They're really not kidding when they say that it's probably better to just take look in the mirror and do some genealogy. I learned more about myself from that than what admixture DNA tests showed me.

I found an interesting feature on 23andMe where you can adjust the "confidence" levels of the results. It defaults to 50% confidence (Speculative). When I turn it up to 90% confidence (Conservative), the suspicious parts disappear (like the <0.1% Sub-saharan African that doesn't show up on the Ancestry DNA test).

I need to get my dad to do the 23andMe test to get my y-DNA. I couldn't figure out a way to access that data from Ancestry.com's results, anyone know how?
