Sounds like you have a problem on hand Hans.... but I fail to understand what this has to do with DNA testing....

    Post DNA Print Genomics

    http://www.dnaprint.com/

Would this be the best place to get this test done? Anybody else done this? Is it worth the money? Thanks!

there is also genetree, amongst others...the most important thing you can do is compare prices, some companies will do a combined mtDNA and y chromo test for low price (150) and some seperately cost 250, probably due to further inspection of the cell samples, who knows (youll have to do the research yourself)

as for any one company being more accurate, no, because DNA tests are almost NEVER 100% accurate, and sometimes overlook traits you could have inherited 20+ generations ago

Y-Chromosome tests and mtDNA tests sample only a small portion of the DNA - so reflect only one ancestor - not your overall DNA.

http://www.ancestrybydna.com sells an overall DNA test for $158, which characterizes you by percentage of: Indo-European, East Asian, Native American, and Sub-Saharan African.

mtDNA might only be interesting in light of recent discoveries about cold and warm adapted types of mtDNA.

Post "Ancestry by DNA" genetic tests results ?

Bare with me as i'm not well versed in genetics.

I did an ancestry by DNA test 2 years ago for my Y-Chromosome and it was facinating (but bloody expensive!) I'd really like to do an mtDNA test to give me some more insight into my maternal line. I have 2 questions:

Is there any cheap/easy place I can have this done for the raw data rather than the useless information offered with these on-line "kits"

    and

Would having my sister contribute the DNA for the test be more accurate than if I did it?

    Thanks!

No, that makes no difference since the line of inheritance is the female one, but both males and females have the mtDNA, so you and your sister, if you have the same mother ;-) , would have the same mtDNA in your blood.

Don't try having your sister contribute the Y-chromosome DNA, though.

    obviously

I thought maybe my sister would have a less muatted mtDNA?

In any case thanks for the feedback guys. Any recomendations as to who I should have the testing done with?

Post "Ancestry by DNA" genetic tests results ?

From searching this forum extensively, I know this has been done quite a few times. Nonetheless, I could not find one person telling the public about his/her test results, despite the fact I have seen many telling us that would "keep us informed".

So, here I ask. Has anyone ever submitted to any of those online DNA tests? If so, would you care to tell us what were the results?

Also, do you think it was worth the money? And, finally, has anyone gotten 100% Indo-European?

    Thank you.

I have not taken one, but from my understanding no one gets 100% Indo-European. I have read several sites on the testing, and from sites that do the testing, and they say that getting 1% negroid or other things is very commonplace. I'll see if I can dig up what I read about the tests regarding this. (It was a while ago that I read on it.)
