Hair Braiding

Hair braiding can be an art of its own. Do you braid your hair, be it long or short? What is your favorite style?

I have long hair (up to my waist) and usually wear it tied in a bun or braid. When I braid my hair, I usually prefer a basic Dutch or French braid. However, given that I have a lot of hair to work with, I like to change between styles (loose vs tighter braids, single or double braids, side or back braids and so on). Some of my favorite styles:

I can't see the difference between French and Dutch braids.
I just do the only kind of braid I know how to do. The take three strands and start weaving kind. I remember teaching myself how to when I was about 7 or 8 during summer at the YMCA. The counselor was teaching some other girl and I asked her to teach me and got ignored.
I just either braid the top half of my hair or just grab it all in a low ponytail and braid what I can. It's a little longer than shoulder length and kind of layered, so it looks like crap if I do that.
I understand how to French braid, but my damn arms give out before I can get halfway started. My arms fall asleep when I try to put up a (decent) ponytail.

I prefer the French one and too bad my hair is not long enough for most of these braids

I've always had a thing for the girls with the thick braided pigtails, it isn't sexual at all. I just really think that look on a woman is very attractive, if I was superman a blonde woman with braided pigtails and a nice long white dress would be my kryptonite.

That is my favorite hair braiding site! I am glad that others like it.

With layered hair you will need either many pins or really strong hair goop. two french or dutch braids would be easier than one larger one.

I will post some links tommorow. But for now here is a shot of me getting married.
Does anyone have suggestions on french braiding your own hair? I cannot keep the tension right.

Juliet? I use that one quite a bit (minus the ribbon), I didn't know it had a name. Although I don't do the English braid, just the 3 strand one.

I almost forgot about this one. I'm not sure what you call it, but my friends are responsible for it. I think the amount bobby pins showing is hilarious.

I usually put my hair in a french braid (sometimes two braids) when my hair is pissing me off and I can't find anything to do with it :p I really have no idea how I learned it either because no one ever taught me. Also when I was younger and went to renaissance faires they had booths where you could get your hair done in really fancy traditional braids and I'd get it done, but I doubt I could ever manage to do any of those myself

I've always wanted my hair done at one of those renfest booths, but I can't see me shelling out that kind of money for something that will only last a day. I can't stand to go around with greasy hair.
