'Forced rep' usually implies completing a repetition with the assistance of a spotter or spotters. This sort of training is useful if trying to increase your bench press max, as you are pushing the repetition beyond the point of positive muscular failure.

I would assume Triglav is not referring to a 'forced rep' but a 'partial rep' - where he was only moving the weight in the top 10 cms of the range of motion. Again useful if trying to up the weight, because you can handle more poundage in this part of the lift. Obviously though, this type of training should be used sparingly, and you should move the weight through a full range of motion most of the time.

No doubt these 'clowns' will reemerge as summer draws closer. No matter how hot and humid the weather gets, notice how they never take off their track pants (hiding their untrained, rake-thin legs) . I love to train legs with heavy squats/ leg presses, whilst they churn out endless sets of bench presses and curling movements.

Post Re: How much do you bench ? (for gym frequenters)

Well when i was young at about 21 i could bench press 325 pounds and I weghed 195. Now that was almost 40 years ago. I still work out and can do about 10 reps with 225 pounds which equates to about 300 pounds. Guys 60 or close to in t should not lift really heavy weights. I have ason 16 that can do 15 reps at 225 thats about 340 or there about he werighs 260,and is 6'3.

it is not um uncomon for fooball players usualy olineman or linebacker's to lift well over 400lbs in the bench. I know of one an arena football player that has benched over 510 pounds he is about 6'0 275.The most amazing was a kid about 195 who could bench 440 pounds,he was athelete too not a body builder.

there si aweb site that can give you a conversion table of reps to maximum weight

Post Re: How much do you bench ? (for gym frequenters)

I've been lifting for about 6 months now and I've gradually increased the weight I could push up. I'm more of a runner, lifting during track season so it wasn't my main focus. Right now, I warm up with the bar (45lbs ) and then 10 reps of 140, 10 reps of 160, and finally 10 reps of 155. I maxed out at 200lbs a little while ago, I don't have a spotter so I haven't tried recently. Oh, I weigh 155lbs so I can easily bench my body weight many times .

It is hard finding a spotter isen't it. I was never able to find a reliable training partner so I developed this method of benchpresing to failure or when doing a 1RM atempt and when i am unable to lift the weight back up from my chest I drop it on my stomach then it sit up and push the Barbell on to my legs then I grab the bar in my hands and lift it of my thigs as I stand up. You might want to use a smal weight when you trie it for the first time just to get in to the rithm of things and dont accidentually land it on your nech.

Thanks for the advice Kempolatoss, I'll have to practice that. I think I'll have a spotter when I leave for college in a month though, plenty of guys in the gym standing around .

if you're a runner you shouldn't be benching at all, instead concentrate on various overhead presses. You see to run you don't use your chest but only your shoulders, so you're just adding un-functional mass to your pectorals
I'd advise too just perform various push-ups for a general conditioning affect but don't ever touch the bench again, try to be strong and not practice the 'ego' lift. Good luck.
