I've always been interested in it from a historical aspect. It was not until I found this website that I looked at it from a more personal aspect.

So, with my combined interest of my ancestors and the kinship I feel here, I have decided to 'start on my path' and look deeper into the Old Germanic Ways.

I was raised Christian by my mother. She made sure me and my siblings went to church regularly and got us very much involved in the children's activities such as a AWANAs and general Sunday school. I am very thankful for that education because it gave me a good base point for morals and judgment of situations. As I got older I started fighting it more and more got bored with it and just didn't want to go. My dad never went to church so eventually I fell to that as my reasoning. In addition I was heavily involved in Boy Scouts so I was commonly unavailable for church on Sundays anyway. Basically my religious spiritually slowly died out but my morals, values and personal restraint remained strong... probably too strong for my own good.... hehe... but that is the way I am.

Through high school I became much less attached to my Christian view points as I started reading fantasy novels and had more experiences with other religions, particularly Shinto through my Japanese classes and Japanese friends. I pretty much gained a strong atheist view of the world but was still very curious about spirituality and was always on the lookout for a "slap in the face" as I call it and always told myself that the only way that i would become truly religious would be for some undeniable experience to push me in a particular direction. My morals and values were too strong to believe that there was no religion and that life as we know it was pointless.

In college I really started questioning the whole Christian world belief and realized that I had very strong hate for it. I was not comfortable with their "Convert or Die" Philosophy and I really didn't like the idea of an "eternal heaven". I am sure that I would eventually get bored with everything being perfect, there were other issues and contradictions that I could not answer about the heaven concept and pretty much became terrified of the constraint of the whole thing.

After I graduated and got married I slowly started attempting to get focused. My wife was raised a "hardcore" Christian but she eventually saw all of the hypocrisies and discrepancies and got fed up with the idea of it all. She believed that every one should look to their roots for spirituality and started to help/shove me to look for mine. She eventually talked me into going to an "Open house" at a local metaphysical store she liked where a guy was giving rune reading among other things going on all over the place there. He told me the Aasatru belief of each physical life as a chance for the spirit to learn something new and that we each chose our own reasons to become physical again... I really liked this idea of freedom but still wasn't sold to a particular religion but a interesting things started to happen. Through his reading he told me somethings i should do to get moving on this path so I went... "What the hell" and ran with em, not really knowing what i was doing but attempting it anyway. A couple of months later I had my first truly spiritual dream (that is probably the best way of explaining it without too much detail for this post)

After that first dream nothing new really happend till about two years later where I had a much more vivid and explicit dream. I had done a little research during this time but not a whole lot. Pretty much i got to meet my ancestors in a dream as well as another Entity.... who i am not 100% certain to his identity but the more I think about it the closer I get to the identity... mostly looking for some other people's input to help varify through their insight and experiences. That dream was the slap in the face I was looking for and now I am on the learning path of the most effective ways of working through my own questions.

    My calliing

I found Heathenry after several years of looking at different faiths from Buddhism to Druidy. A local Pagan group had a monthly Heathen families brunch and I had no idea what Heathen was, but I was willing to go meet other Pagans. The event was being held at a local Kindred's Hof and that night they were doing a Harvet Blot and after the brunch were kind enough to invite us to what was a closed Blot.

It was an amazing experience and at once I heard the Gods calling me home, particularly Heimdall, Freja, and Tyr, but they were all there and continue to be.

Found out about? In Norway we preserved folk lore and beliefs from old days. It lives in our culture.

A trip to Iceland four years ago (this October) in which one night I had a dream where I met Thor and Sif.

I've been pagan for many years. I was studying the runes this summer and suddenly found myself switching topics and reading about Asatru/Heathenry instead. I've been intrigued ever since. It hasn't been particularly easy though. In many ways I'm the total opposite of many of the heathens, at least around here, since I tend to be more liberal (not consertative), etc.

I really can't say! I've known about the old northern tales for as long as I can remember; I remember reading them when I was a boy. I've had an interest in mythology all of my life. As a religion I've known about heathenry for about a decade, mind you I'm more of an eclectic dabbler than anything else.

Pretty much the above, only I didn't know of Folk Metal yet besides some Bathory tracks that had a slight hint of Folk element to them, so ya. Burzum, Mayhem, Immortal, Bathory, Absurd, Graveland.. Burzum I must stress though. He was not only my biggest musical influence, but my biggest personal influence as well. Vikernes communicated to me on a level that no other person did back in my adolescent years. The way he writes is as though he's talking directly to you and his music would spark an obscure hint of insight. Vårg is certainly a genius. I just wish he would progress skillfully and add a little bit more excitement to his Black Metal. He claims to be so anti- Black Metal yet his sound indicates otherwise. Anyway, I would read his writings regarding Burzum and mostly Paganism on burzum.org and shortly thereafter, found myself seeking more knowledge on my ancestry and researching further into Paganism. I've been studying it for about six years and actively practicing it for approximately a year now. Had it not been for technology and Burzum, I'd have been stuck with Atheism as the only alternative since my family are all just Christian and Atheist and the only "Pagans" I ever had the displeasure to encounter were the fraudulent sexually- frustrated homosexual drug addict Wiccans. Let's be realistic. Unless one found out about Odinism through a family member who had knowledge on ancestors who actually practiced it, without the internet, finding the white ancestral folkish faith would be like finding the needle in the haystack. Nay. A microscopic pin. Christianity is truly a death cult and a plague blacker than a starless midnight sky.

I'm new here so it seemed very suitable to start my activity with this topic.

As I am of Volksdeutsche ancestry, but still live in an ignorant country named Croatia, I've always had difficulties with identifying myself as a Croatian, therefore, a Slav.
In the whole ex-Yugoslavian area, which used to be full of Volksdeutschen until the end of the WWII, there's almost no trace of their national and ancestral feeling. I'm not sure how many of us are still here, but the number is sadly small
And those who left are nowadays completely slavenizated, to say so. Moreover, the country suffers from a very bad form of Catholic domination, so only last few year you can meet people who are declared heathens.

My heathenry comes from a feeling that I developed by myself, because connecting with the Nature was the only thing that could make me happy in this society. Later I've found a name for my feeling - Odalism, though I give gods a little more importance than some Odalists. For me, it's not a religion or a philosophy, but a way of life, something that makes my living reasonable.
