Post AW: How Many Languages Do You Speak?

I am kind of fluent in German and English, some knowledge of the French language and currently struggling with Latin (but this isn't a spoken language anymore ).

I'd like to learn quite some languages in the future - but time?

    What about...

    Norwegian?
    Danish?
    Greek?
    Japanese?
    Sanscrit?

(Can anyone supply me with some additional life years? )

You speak skånsk and you're making fun of Danish?! Oh well, skånsk is just another form of danish anyway, as is of course norwegian (dvs bokmål)... And it takes special talent to speak as though one has porridge or potatoes in one's mouth and in fact have nothing of the kind...

As my mother tongue is Catalan it counts as one, as Spanish was compulsory during Franco´s rulerships counts as two, as I studied English and German in University and taught them for many years they would count for three and four but my students were so little appalled for them that today Ijust feel the same, Latin counts five as I have a university degree for it, and French and Italian would be six and seven, French for family reasons so i had to master it and Italian because Pompeii is there, it is not really "toscan" my italian but it fits my necessities. In a future I would like to master Japanese and Chinese.

"... National Socialism is infinitely more than a mere political creed; the fact is that it is a way of life, a faith in the fullest sense of the word—one could say a religion, however different it may at first appear, from every existing system thus labeled in current speech. Religions are not as easy to uproot as mere political creeds."

Here in the Netherlands we have a rather extensive system of 'high schools'. Around the age of 12, the youth pick a certain 'brand' of high school, depending on factors such as IQ. One such choice is the so-called gymnasium, where classes in Latin and ancient Greek are compulsory. That's where I went.

Gosh !, if it's so, then we have something in common ; the high school i frequented is called "CLASSIC" high school ("Classic" means an old style education , based on traditional ancient languages and hard work. Well, at least in theory , by the moment i wasn't a good student ). The first two years , are called "GINNASIO" in my language, ( = GYMNASIUM).

Ah, how many remembrances from those old terrible translations .....

I voted four, though it should be five.

Fluent: Portuguese (plus Galician), Castilian, English.
    Semi-fluent: German, French, Latin, Italian.

Which do you want to learn that you don't already know?
Catalan, Provençal, Occitan (ok, I already understand most of these three) Russian, Finnish, Gaeilge and Swedish or Bokmål.
