    Re: Equinox

Here in Spain we only celebrate the Summer equinox. It was Christianized as Saint John's night (La noche de San Juan), but it is an old pagan tradition that comes from our Celtic and Iberian ancestors. It consists in jumping over bonfires all over the night, and in the morning washing yourself with water that has been left all night long with spring flowers.

    Happy Spring Equinox!

BTW, I just remembered that the "Fallas of Valencia" were yesterday, almost coinciding with the Spring Equinox, perhaps it has its origin in another pagan tradition.

Beautiful lupines (or are they phlox ?), but surely they aren't blooming YET.

It's Spring astronomically; it's Spring by the calendar, but, at least here in Connecticut, it's definitely not Spring by the thermometer (1 degree C.) !

    Re: Happy Spring Equinox

Yes indeed, Spring is upon us in the northern hemisphere. In Bridie's realm on the otherhand....

We started spring off on a chilly note--had a low temperature this morning of -5F (-20C) and we still have over two feet (.6 meters) of snow on the ground.

If it wasn't for the increased daylight, one would think it was still January here.

Here's a pic from just two days ago that I took while out for a ski.

    Smile Re: Happy Spring Equinox

    Happy Spring!

I was just out for a longer walk up a hill nearby, and I am totally thrilled with nature's charms! Yesterday at this time was the most clear blue cloudless sky, and the sun sets behind the trees behind our house. What is really special about this time of year where I am is that you can see so much of the landscape, since the buds have not yet turned into leaves. The new moon was a real beauty yesterday too, and after sunset the evening star (Venus/Freja) and Mars were clearly visible with their glowing reflections of the sun.
