my favorites are Salazar (the portuguese one) and Mussolini... i don't like Franco very much.... killing people of his own country in that enormous number sounds kind of outrageous for me!

    Viva Franco!

His opponents were doing as much killing, and if the Reds had succeeded they may well have taken Spain into WWII leading to even greater loss of life. Anyway, for preventing wholesale slaughter of the Spanish clergy and destruction of it's churches and faith, I voted for the Generalissimo (sp?)

lol, i'm not talking about the Spanish civil war, or even the WWII, but if i was you were pretty right... i mean, during all the time that they ruled their countries... after the civil war and the WWII, do you know that franco implied all spaniards, inside the borders of Spain, to talk ONLY Castillan??? and killed the ones who couldn't talk it... (i am not sure about this... i've read in a book written by a red guy... )

but it is your opinion, we should respect that!

Yes, actually I have heard that about Castellano, and I do think that is a pity. Perhaps the reasoning behind it was that he could cement Spain even closer together by making Castillan the first language for all. That was a pity as the languages should have been allowed to co-exist within the larger framework of a united Spain.

    But I'll forgive him that

One third of Ulster is already in the Republic of Ireland, do you wish to see these 3 counties returned to British Rule?

Hehe, guess whom I gave my vote...

The term "Fascist" is of course not clear defined, and in the history of ideas National-Socialism is often excluded from "standard" fascism as something much more radical of its own with special character, while on the other side the transition from fascism to traditional-authoritarian systems (to which Franco strikes more) is fluid.

From the others, I prefer Mussolini much more to Franco. I also don't really like Franco, and he was somehow indeed more a simple arch-reactionary. Torpidity, not dynamic impulse.

Whom I don't like from the other "fascists" of Europe who aren't mentioned here is Austria's Dollfuß. Little fucker...
