    Greetings...

This is my first post and of course, it is about a subject close to my heart (and liver) .... beer!

I really can't choose a favourite beer based merely upon nationality just as I can't choose a favourite beer based on style.

I enjoy Guinness stouts (the beer most associated as "Irish") at times but I wouldn't usually want to have all my beers in a session to be Guinness stouts (although I have done that!). I also like many German beers (either brewed in Germany or based on Germanic styles).

To be honest , there are more German (and German style) beers available here (eastern Canada) than ones from Ireland. I can think of Guinness stout (nice and perhaps odd to some being a rather creamy un-hoppy beer with mild taste ~ usually if I get a stout of this kind of style, I'll get the Black Scottish Stout from Belhaven in Scotland which has more taste), Smithwick's red ale (was pretty good from memory) and Harp lager (a rather boring lager if I recall).

Beers from Germany I often get are Bitburger premium, DAB lager, Wernesgruner pils and Paulaner Hefe-Weissbier. Another favourite beer is Pilsner Urquell (which I'd consider Germanic really ~ invented by Bavarian Josef Groll and brewed in Pilsen ). Apparently a huge percentage of beers today stem from this beer (I often just get the Wernesgruner pils as it's similar and is really cheap here LOL).

Other favourite beers are mainly Scottish, English or craft beers brewed locally which can be IPA's (hoppier), stouts (one local one has amazing rich taste), red ales, bitters, or even in winter, "barley wines" (not really wines but they are often 11% and really rich, warm and good for sipping on a cold night ~ but they hide their alcohol content well unlike some cheap thing like FAXE 10% LOL)

    --------

I have a huge 1 litre glass stein (Maßkrug) with horses and stagecoach on it with text "Fürstliche Brauerei Thurn und Taxis Regensburg" written on it (haven't seen or had their beer). This holds two whole 500ml cans at once LOL (the top curves in nicely and holds the head up a bit)

I also have a stoneware and zinc lid stein (Made in Germany By Gerz) with the coat of arms of Germany and crests of the German states and "DEUTSCHLAND" in big text.

I usually drink my German beers in those :-)

    -----------------

However to sum up, I would say on average I drink more German-style beers than Irish.

English beers are best. Irish is just the very bitter tasting Guinness and one or two similar drinks as far as I know. German beers have too much gas in them.

German. There is no other bier. The rest is just pisswater.

Seriously, there are other good beers from other countries, but none I like better than German.

    Ein Bier bitte!
