In Sweden, looking for culture

Hej, I'm an American here currently studying abroad in Smaland. I'm interested in the traditions and culture of Sweden, since I practice them at home. So far I've only been to a few towns and cities, but I still want more. I love the music, celebrations, and customs, but I really don't know where or when to find them, so I need your help . I would absolutely love to go to a folk festival or something, especially during Midsummers... could someone direct me to the best places to go? I would be eternally grateful.

I think the most traditional midsummer festival is held in Rättvik, Dalarna. I also advice you to try to attend to a crayfish party and a surströmmingsskiva(fermented Baltic herring).

I can also recommend you to visit the national romantic artist Carl Larssons home Sundborn in Dalarna and the national museum of art(Nationalmuseum) in Stockholm.

Perhaps a visit to Gotland during Medeltidsveckan (medieval week) would be something to consider? It's in August though.

Go to Öland and visit the very special nature reserve Alvaret and the national park Blå Jungfrun. Regalskeppet Kronan is a ship that sunk outside Öland and you can see it at Kalmar läns museum in Kalmar.

Not yet, but I will come May, because our Swedish Film class will go all across Glass Kingdom to Kalmar and back to visit sites of the films.

I will try to go to the Folk Festivals, but FYI the Falufolk Festival filed for bankruptcy in 2005 .
