Why we don't know the man on the £20 note from Adam

Why we don't know the man on the £20 note from Adam

On the day when Adam Smith replaces Sir Edward Elgar on the £20 note, three-quarters of Britons say they have no idea who he is.

Smith was an 18th-century philosopher and political economist who played a key role in the intellectual movement known as the Scottish Enlightenment.

I guess this doesn't really suprise anyone. Probably around 75% don't know who Elgar was either...

Stephen Hawking came second on the poll, can you imagine his face on the note? (sorry but it is funny to me). Better than Churchill (first) and John Lennon (third, ugh) though.

about him being Scottish etc. this dooesn't bother me at all (after all it is British currency not English?) like it seems to get so many in a flap in the discussion. But I suppose it's a good thing overall that they seem to mind that so much (then again it is the Daily Mail...).

next time it'll probably be Linford Christie or something...

Christ... Linford Christie and John Lennon. It'll happen one day

If nothing else Smith deserves credit for his "invisible hand" metaphor.

I am surprised it's a deceased native Brit, I seriously was expecting someone like Trevor Phillips or Amir Khan on the reverse.

On a side-note .. I read the Daily Mail, it's the only rag that criticises Immigration, Political Correctness and Muliticulturalism every day.
What's the anti-Daily Mail vibe I get off people, I usually recieve that from my Politics lecturers who tell me I should be reading the Guardian.
