    Germany Invading Ireland in WWII

I never knew that Germany was planning on taking over Ireland. Why didn't the Germans go through with this? Ireland would of been a great place to take off from for bombing raids. Plus many Irish hated and still hate the English for their years of oppression against them.

I have never heard of Germany trying to take over Ireland, but I do know that many Irish were actually pro-German as Ireland was neutral.

The Germans planned a lot of things. There is the "small" matter of the Royal Navy, the Royal Air Force, plus resistance from the Irish.

What makes you think the Germans would want to sail from Brittany to Cork, when they were nervous about the journey from Calais to Dover??

Ireland would of been a great place to take off from for bombing raids.
London and the South East of England are closer to France, Belgium and Holland than they are to Ireland. No doubt Irish airbases would have been of utility to the Germans, hypothetically.

But essentially the German bomber and fighter forces were inadequate for strategic bombing campaigns, IOW beyond the tactical level. The Germans had perfectly adequate locations in Europe, they just lacked the machinery and the numbers.

Plus many Irish hated and still hate the English for their years of oppression against them.
I think that is becoming irrelevant even by the Second World War, the Irish had independence. Northern Ireland/Ulster was then and is now a bone of contention and unresolved issue. Don't forget many many Irishmen from the Republic served in the British armed forces, that shows sentiment towards the English was more complex than you appear to suggest.

A more interesting question is, would the Irish have accepted German control as a way of re-incorporating Ulster with the Republic (or Free State as it was then). Because there's no guarantee that once the Germans were in Ireland, that they would have left any time soon.

Also when we talk about oppression, it's more polite (and correct) to talk about the English authorities/government oppressing the Irish. The English people have never had a quarrel with the Irish people, whatever actions have been committed by agents of the English/British state.

A fun, quaint movie on wartime Ireland and their relations to the Germans and British is this movie, The Brylcreem Boys:
