Freemasons? You can find freemasons in leading positions in any goverment institutions in old continent as well. Banging slave women on a nightly basis is nothing new for nationbuilders; even the Vikings did it.

Re: Does America Have A Culture?

It depends on how the term 'culture' itself is understood. The United States most certainly doesn't have a culture at the 'macro-level' in which every individual within the country takes part. It does, as stated already, have smaller sub-cultures that could be described as regional (i.e. peculiar to certains sections of the country). Also, there are sub-cultures that occur not only across racial lines but also socio-economic lines as well.

However, on the question of more recent 'popular culture' (which is often equated with American culture at the macro-level), I think classifying these trends as legitimate 'culture' is inaccurate. To me, this is simply decadent behavior and shouldn't even be considered a genuine culture. Truthfully, American culture at the macro-level would be literally impossible today, because 'American' has ceased to signify anything higher than mere political citizenship. How can a population consisting of elements that are clearly incompatible create a stable culture in the first place?

Re: Does America Have A Culture?

All European immigrants who came to America, whether they were Irish, Italian, German etc, all their children that were born here will retain some of the culture of their Grandparents, but all Americans the dominating culture is that of our fore fathers the Anglos which is considered the American culture and it supersedes our ethnic culture.

some of the offspring of the immigrants , some can speak the language of their Grandparents, but it is a second language, english is the primary language of all European ethnics born here.

Because we are Americans who helped build and fight the wars to protect America.

A really good source for this subject would be the book " Affluenza " . It gives a comprehensive picture of how the US is viewed by other nations of the world as a culture.
It would be a bruising read to most americans but for those who seek an answer to your post it might be of much benefit.
Incidently I have a theory that the apparent confusion amongst americans regarding cultural definition is the reason for their immense national pride.
The theory being that as the US was settled by many cultures from many different nations the most unifying factor may well have been simply the fact that they all referred to themselves as american nationals. Hence the almost universal national pride displayed by american citizens but the continuing ambiguety as to what is the true nature of US culture.

It would be interesting to hear what other people here thought of it.
