Does America Have A Culture?

I don't know if anyone have covered this subject yet, but I wanted peoples' feedback, opinions, and facts. The other day I've debated with some friends about whether America and Americans truly have a culture to claim. They seem to claim that America is all culture, but I fail to see their points. To me, America has heritage from the people who reside in it, but that doesn't consist of a generalized culture. I see American "culture" as vague and loose, ever shifting to the current trends in the now. I see it as devoid of true culture because of multi-culturalism and each ethnic group's strive for superiority. Gross consumerism, lack of self, and non-compassion to native populace or heritages. Short-lived trends and media control propoganda are the past-times of the common norm. This is what I see when I go outside. My opinion may be myopic, but it's what I see. Any feedback and comments would be nice. Sources of information to the subject is greatly appreciated.

Yes, it's called Western (European and European-Derived) Culture.

America has a culture yes. Which would be the native-americans. Like the Navajo, Cherokee, Abenaki, Beothuk, Cheyenne and Blackfoot Tribes - having a great sense of nature and their own way of paganism.

The USA is something else and only has a Media-Culture. But nothing you could really call a culture.
US-Americans just could say that there culture is the one which they carry from their european ancestors.

How I feel is most people that reside in USA are not indigenous to North America (genetically, racially...) and I feel you will be much more in touch with your inner soul, psyche, spirituality if you are in a place that you are "naturally" and indigneously (genetically) originate.

I know the feeling, I'm an American with European roots. I have been to Europe several times, and feel so in place there, like the puzzle is complete. In the USA, I feel like I have been transported out of my natural environment and put into a artificial one that is supposed to resemble the natural one. But I have done my best to adapt, and would like to "go back" to live in Europe someday soon.

There are many subcultures. Mormons in the Mountain West have their own culture. The Yankees of New England & upper New York have a culture. Texans have a distinct culture. Appalachia, the South, the West all have subcultures. There are urban cultures in places like New York & Chicago that are dominated by ethnic Whites. There are the Amish. The rural Midwest. The distinctions among the subcultures of America are becoming blurred because of modern communications and consolidation of media companies but this is happening all over.

Contemporary American culture revolves heavily around sports. This is true in all nations but in America, the biggest sports are American football, basketball & baseball which set us apart from other nations. Unfortunately football, basketball & to a lesser extent baseball have been Negroized. Hockey is the biggest sport in Canada which sets that nation apart from the US.

I simply may think of culture differently, but these are customs, while not totally seperated, culture and customs are different, and many people just mix them up.

Culture is created by just a few, the rest are the carriers of culture, maybe through customs, that said, America's (and Germany's) culture are pretty fucked up and down the drain right now, while there are still people who carry some of the "good old" culture. Mostly different ones (English, German, Mexican, etc.)

Many appear to have lost their heritage, but many identify themselves within an "American" culture, however I think the general social characteristics of the United States meets the definition of culture.
