    Post Whats an Epicanthic Fold?

Can someone give examples of this
Particularly among Caucasians and not mongoloids if possible.

pure caucasians do not have the fold. it is a mongoloid trait.

Post Re: Whats an epicanthic fold?

The epicanthic fold is an adaptation to severe cold, arctic cold, and also protects against snow blindness. It is an extra piece of fat laden skin covering the upper eye lid and the canthus of the eye.

As mentioned before it is a characteristic of the mongoloid race, > 90% of East Asians such as Chinese and Mongols. It is not found in caucasoids except as a chance mutation and mostly covers only the canthus of the eye or where hybridisation with mongoloids has occurred. The slanted and narrow eye arrangement of Saami, East Baltics, Ladogans and other Northeasterners is a separate development or adaptation to cold conditions in Europe, and is not a true mongolian epicanthic fold.

according with Vallois epicathic fold could occur in caucasian children, with no mongoloid admixture.

wrong...the epicanthic fold was formed from adaptation of the EXTREME winds of the steppes...and glares of the sun on the surrounding mountain tops (there is less stress on the muscle tissue above the eye if there is extra skin allowing one to squint easily) there is no caucasian adaptation resulting in an epicanthic fold, if you honestly think this, then you should also think that arabids with thick lips and wide noses adapted to the hot "desert" weather...

''The epicanthic fold of skin over the corners of the eyes in Asian people is an interesting racial characteristic that may have provided an adaptive advantage among ancestors of present-day Asian populations. It has been suggested that the fat-lined fold of skin above the eyelid may have protected the eye in bitterly cold weather of Mongolia. Although this characteristic doesn't appear to offer any environmental survival advantage in modern populations, it is undoubtedly a favorable phenotypic trait in mate selection. It is interesting to note that individuals with Down's syndrome (with three #21 chromosomes) also have the epicanthic fold.''

In fact Asians are unique in that their facial shape, the eyes, nose and overall sizes tends to be different from Caucasians. Approximately 50 percent of all Asians are born with the "Single eyelid" type, namely without an upper eyelid crease, while the rest are born with an upper lid crease. The latter type is traditionally called the "Double eyelid" type. Asian eyelid crease are quite different from the Caucasians' in terms of length, shape and height.

"It has been suggested that...", there is very much a use of the epicanthic fold in people of the steppes...

Well Arabs do have realtively thick lips and wide noses when compared to Nordids and/or Mongols. Of course not as thick as Congoids though.

I also noticed Arabids have thick upper eyelids, maybe that is an extra shield for blowing sand?? Also the thick bushy eyebrows shield eyes from the sand. And the large curved hooked nose covors the nostrils from the blowing sands. But why do Arabs tend to have thick hair, since they come from the hot desert?? Could it be because it gets cold at night or....??
