    More in general, form governative sources, the proportion between European and extra-europeans is :

    Europeans = 86 %

    Minorities = 14 %

    The term "European", comprises some arabs, While in the minorities, are considered all the VISIBLE extraeuropean elements (chinese for example).

    Anyway, I agree that the Quebecois are strongly Atlantid/Atlanto-Med with surely some Alpine tossed in.

    English/British Isles Canadians (Ontario & the Maritimes), understandably so, are more Keltic & Brunnish in my opinion...

    The figures for German are not correct. Maybe a typing error?

    Yes. But these figures are more than six years old. Hasn't there been a census in 2005?

    I read in an atlas Canada's population in mid 2000 had been 30.570 million. This was probably based on an estimation.

    Yes, multiple responses should be 2,037,170. Sorry about that. This is were I missed up. There were 1,270,370 persons claiming Italian ethnicity, with 726,275 claiming Italian only & 544,090 claiming Italian with multiple responses. I omitted Italian ethnicity on the table in post #1.

    Canada takes a census in years ending in 1 & 6. Data from 2006 hasn't been made available yet.

    Here is a link to more detailed data including smaller ethnicities (150,000 & fewer) and data for the individual provinces:http://www12.statcan.ca/english/cens...501&GV=1&GID=0

    Canada's population is now over 33M, it was 32.4 in 2005. Many immigrants are responsible for this rise, but the birth-rate is not that worse here. At least in Québec, last years, women have been very fertile, and I'm talking about French-Canadians women.

    About Canadian phenotype, I must tell that, with everything I saw in Eastern Canada (Ontario and onward), one can find any European phenotype here. Many people are quite CM, many are light-eyed, the average height is quite tall, dolichocephaly is common, hair colour vary from very dark to pure light, skin type are varied too, but the average Canadian is pale. This country is the kingdom of brutal winter, remember?

    Re: Ethnicity in Canada

    Here is a pie chart representing the population of Canada by race. The visible minority population of Canada was 3.983 million (13.4%) in 2001.

    However this omits the Native Indian population of 1 million . That doesn't make sense.

    Here are the largest "Visible Minorities" in Canada in 2001.

    Chinese_______1,029,395 (3.5%)
    South Asian ____ 917,075 (3.1%)
    Black (Negro)____662,210 (2.2%)
    Filipino__________308,575 (1%)
    Latin American___ 216,000 (0.7%)
    Southeast Asian _ 198,880 (0.7%)
    Arab___________ 194,680 (0.7%)
    West Asian______109,285 (0.4%)
    Korean_________ 100,660 (0.3%)
    Japanese________73,875 (0.2%)

    Sometimes South Asian is refered to as Indo-Canadian, not to be confused with "Native American" or "First Nations" (Canada's Aboriginal population). Canada doesn't include Arabs or Armenians as White, unlike the US Census Bureau.

    I am an oddball when it comes to be racially Canadian according to those terms.

    For an allegedly very multicultural country, this is a good thing to hear.

    Re: Ethnicity in Canada

    Don't know how european Canada is according to the census or whoever, but i'll be damned if my discipline is even 20% white...and i definitely rememeber hearing that toronto is 10% chinese...probably ~30-40% "visible minority" in total (judging from personal experience with public transportation)

    Go out of Montréal, Toronto or Vacouver and you'll discover a world of middle-sized city or villages which are 90% or 95% European. Québec city, where I live, is made of 2,6% of immigrants, the other 97,4% are French-Canadians (immense majority) and English. Not that bad for a city of 500,000.
