Journal of the International Society for Shamanistic Research

Journal of the International Society for Shamanistic Research

Symptomatic of the growing interest in shamanism, a religious phenomenon current in Eurasia, the Americas and Australia, the International Society for Shamanistic Research (ISSR) was founded at the International Congress of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences held in Zagreb in 1988. The journal Shaman, launched in 1993, was approved as the official publication of the ISSR in the same year. Shamanism being the complex phenomenon that it is, shamanistic studies make fascinating reading for anyone with an interest in the history of religions, anthropology, mythology, folklore, ethnomusicology, ethnochoreography, psychiatry or ethnomedicine.

Since it occurs worldwide, Shaman's focus is comprehensive: Turkic, Mongolian, Manchu-Tunguz, Korean, Japanese, Finno-Ugrian, and American Indian subjects are all discussed. As shamanism exists admixed with Christianity, Islam or Buddhism in many areas, Shaman also publishes articles dealing with the relationship of shamanism to these world religions.

Shaman is a semiannual journal (90-100 pages per issue) of a strictly academic nature, publishing original articles written in English. In addition, Shaman publishes reviews of current books, films, videos, records, tapes and CDs, accounts of works in progress and announcements of coming events.

    PaleoAnthropology goes Open Access

    PaleoAnthropology

In late 2005 the Society's contract with the University of Pennsylvania Press expired. The Officers and Editors have decided to take over the responsibility of publishing our journal, PaleoAnthropology, with shared support from the University of Pennsylvania Museum. Because of this, a number of changes will take place.

The most important of these is that, beginning immediately, the journal will be accessible free of charge to everyone, including non-members of the Paleoanthropology Society. The journal can be accessed at its own address (http://www.paleoanthro.org/journal/default.htm) or through the main page of the Society's website.

With the advice of the Board of Editors, we will also be adding additional features to the journal. Currently the journal has been devoted to the publication of articles, book reviews, and the abstracts of the annual meetings of the Society. This will be expanded, in part, to include commentaries on articles, summaries of current work in the various fields of paleoanthropology, and other features.

Journal of Germanic Mythology and Folklore

Journal of Germanic Mythology and Folklore

The Journal of Germanic Mythology and Folklore hopes to stimulate interest and bring to light new scholarship as well as to dispel misinterpretations and misunderstandings. As a free web-based journal, we believe in open information. This is also why we accept submissions from academics and nonacademics alike. It is designed as a forum to share new scholarship on topics relating to Germanic (sometimes referred to as Norse or Teutonic) mythology and folklore (ancient, medieval and modern).

Best Anthropological Journals and Source of Scientific Papers

    Journal of Ethnobiology and Ethnomedicine

The Journal of Ethnobiology and Ethnomedicine is one of a range of online journals published by BioMed Central. Most of these journals are online only, although a few currently have a traditional paper version. The journals share several key features: the original research they publish is freely accessible to all, copyright in original research is retained by the authors, and articles are published quickly online once accepted after peer-review - within days, in most cases.

    Journal of Germanic Linguistics

    Journal of Germanic Linguistics

This is a great quarterly that I've been reading for a while now. If you access the URL from the network of an institution that subscribes to the journal, you will be able to access the contents (in varying degrees depending on the nature of the subscription). Otherwise, this link might not be helpful to you at all. I access the site from comupters on my university's network.

If you have a serious interest in Germanic linguistics (including comparative studies, the linguistics of any specific Germanic language, historical studies, and so forth), you should definitely read this journal. Articles are usually in English, but are sometimes in German.
