Mad Schwarzenegger Vows to Combat Steroid Use

Schwarzenegger Vows to Combat Steroid Use

    The Steroid Issue

A dark cloud hung over this year's Arnold event because of the arrival in Columbus of embattled drug-lab operator Victor Conte, who was promoting a new product. Conte, head of Balco Laboratories, has been accused by federal officials of giving performance-enhancing supplements to star athletes like San Francisco Giants baseball star Barry Bonds.

Governor Schwarzenegger, a self-confessed former steroid user (it was both legal and common practice when he used it), wants to clean up bodybuilding now. Recently named executive editor of Flex and Muscle, and Fitness magazines, he spoke to reporters on the steroid topic.

He admitted that he used steroids to bulk up, but is now vowing to use his new position as editor of a muscle magazine to push for an end to steroid use in the sport, the San Jose Mercury News reported on Sunday.

"It is very complicated," said the Austrian-born Schwarzenegger, who has gone from Mr Olympia to one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood, to a political figure who is now in the fourth month of his new role as governor of California.

Time will now tell if can make good on that promise among all the other political chips he has to fulfill.

If that's not politically correct garbage, what is?

There is nobody competing in bodybuilding at an international level that doesn't use steroids.

Ouch, he can look forward to skin cancer as well as effects from steroid use.

Why should it be legalized though? Why should the use of steroids be condoned, when it gives people who use it such an advantage over others, in all sports? It will make everyone dependent on it to enhance themselves, is that what we want? What about the side effects of steroid use, like the "'roid rage" and other health issues? Football for example already uses players like animals, putting their bodies through severe torture, to the point where many of them retire young with permanent injury. Prolonged steroid use would probably increase injury whether directly or indirectly.

There is a lot of activism right now against using technology for the modification of human biology for positive purposes (medicinal use is considered o.k., however). This includes Arnie's campaign against Steroids, the broad campaign against human stem cell research, etc. I think these campaigns will eventually fail, because we are in a global, free-market system, and such substances, research, etc can be obtained or done in the little-regulated zones of the Third World.

If I'm right, then people of the future might not resemble present humans except perhaps in a very basic (anthropoid) way.

Arnold and his peers were using mostly deca/winny stacks (orally) close to competitions and in laughable amounts in comparison to todays olympians .One could argue that todays pro-hormones ,andro and the like (1-test for example) if stacked and cycled in an intelligent manner could replicate the same "little something extra" that arnold and his peers were getting back then.Back then there actually were some clean competitors (maybe not winners) but today if they're there...they're dirty- and guys today take regimens that were unheard of back then in substance and in amount.
Yes , I agree there is some hypocracy in Arnolds anti-steroid stance - but it's a hypocracy that could be averted by simply coming clean about what and how much they were doing back then- I think society could handle the truth .

Interesting. They outlawed steroids in spite of the fact "that the American Medical Association opposed the move."

    I heard this before.

Well, but marijuana is a recreative drug, and steroids incrase strengh, corporal composition and etc
