    This pictures shows the official brazilian classification of
    mestizos in a school book in the 80's

    traduction :


    `` Our people , Our habits

    How is our people?

    take a look at this figure :

    (picture showing different races )

    In this picture you can see various ethnic types : whites ,
    mulattos and blacks.

    The formation of brazilian people was maked in this way : the Indian
    was the first resident in our land. After came the White Portuguese,
    the Black came from Afrika to work as slave .Some time latter we receive
    other people in our land. They came from another countries to live in
    Brazil. They are immigrants.

    The mixing of people continued. Today we are a miscigenated people,
    mixed.

    From the mixing of Indians , blacks and whites the mestizos emerged :

    . mulato (mulatto) = White + Black
    . mameluco = Indian + White
    . Cafuzo = Indian + Black *


    Make a work in your notebook using pictures from magazines,
    creating mixed couples ''



    * the mix of Indians + Blacks + Whites are knowed as Cafuzo too.

    Interesting that they call white/indian mixes "Mamelukes." Mamelukes were Turkic guards in Egypt, I believe. That's sort of like saying "Turanid" (Caucasoid/Mongoloid blend).
