    EU money pit

Britain's EU membership between 1972 and 1997 has cost you, the British taxpayer, a breathtaking £235 BILLION. Our yearly gross contribution currently is £11 billion, or approximately £1.25 million EACH HOUR. This money could have built homes, hospitals, and schools.

    From the NNP website; http://www.nnp.org.uk/promises/promises.html

Think of all those pounds going out of taxpayers pockets and out of the country, and people are upset about subsidising Scotland!

    Re: EU money pit

That's a very good question, lei-talk. As far as I can see all they get is access to the Common Market, which goes to show that it's actually a customs union rather than a real free trade deal. The funny part being that Britain does far more trade with the US than they do with the EU. The European countries that GB traded with the most before joining the EU were Denmark and Norway. Denmark followed GB into the EU to avoid losing access to the British market like New Zealand did. Australia, New Zealand and Canada all lost access to the British market to various degrees when GB joined. Even now, after 30 odd years of straining to fit GB into the EU, they still do far more trade outside the union than inside. Anyone who thinks that GB had to join the EU for economic reasons has been hoodwinked by propaganda. It has always been a United States of Europe in the making and GB was tricked into joining by traitors like Prime Minister Edward Heath who knew exactly what they were doing.
