    Post Your Favorite Celtic Bands?

This is a Celtic forum, I'm sure obviously many of the people who post here are big fans of traditional Celtic folk music. I sure am! What bands or artists in particular are your favorite of them all?

I have to say that my all time favorite Celtic band is the Scottish group Old Blind Dogs.

    http://www.oldblinddogs.demon.co.uk/

For over ten years now, the Old Blind Dogs have stood at the leading edge of the roots revival that has both reawakened and revolutionised Scottish folk music.

Combining a deep appreciation of ancient traditions with a highly contemporary, dynamically cosmopolitan musical approach, their uniquely distinctive arrangements of ballads, airs, and dance-tunes put the sounds of their homeland firmly on the world music map.

You can also listen to songs from their latest albums. My favorite album of theirs is "the World's Room", especially the first song "To the Beggin' I will go", which also happens to be my favorite song done by the.
You can listen to it here

I also love their version of Robert Burns' "Is there for honest Poverty" from their album "Fit?" http://www.greenlinnet.com/shopping/...ProductID=1003

I also very much like the Chieftains. Clannad is another group I like.

Honest, for me it's a break from the emptiness that characterizes most music in English language:

One song I like a lot but I don't understand a word of it is Rann Na Móna... I wish someone would translate it from Scottish Gaelic:
Indeed it is a very powerful band who led to a revival of celtic consciousness in Scotland
I don't know Scottish Gaelic. All I can understand is that "my heart is dancing....I 'll go to Rann na Mona...on the seaside " and she'll "fish salmon" there

    So many!
Horslips and Steeleye Span are by far the very best though - esp the album I spend my life raving about; ''the Táin'' by the former!
Steeleye Span do an excellent ''Black leg Miner'' and are some of the best musicians I have ever heard.

I thought Steeleye Span were English?
And isn't Black leg Miner a Red song?

They're half Irish and half English. Black leg Miner is a song about the union and i LOVE it.

I like Enter The Haggis, from my hometown. The guys are cool (I've known them for about five years) and Craig rocks on the bagpipes.

Slainte Mhath from Cape Breton are OK too.

I don't really like the band Orthodox Celts but they're interesting because the're Serbs playing Irish music ( mostly original Irish songs, but some of their repertoire is their own ).
    Visit their website at www.orthodoxcelts.co.yu

their discography( RealAudio feeds ): http://www.orthodoxcelts.co.yu/discoe.html

Best songs ( according to me ):
