    Hypothetically Question About Genetics

The older a particular gene is in a genome, the shorter it will be. And with each new generation, it continues to get shorter.

In mathematics, we would see this as as time approaches infinity, the length of the gene would approach zero.

So here is a hypothetical situation.

A white and a negro reproduce a child. Half the genes are white and half negro. But this mixed breed and all of it's offspring afterwards only breeds with whites. So as the negro genes get older with each new generation, they get shorter. Is it possible, that eventually the negro genes will be squeezed out of the genome? The gene length approach zero.

I assume that's a pretty well known fact at least to geneticists -- which I am not one.

That's how they can tell how old certain genes are though from what I understand it's not very reliable.

I read an article in a magazine on becoming human. In it, the writer said something about genes getting shorter over time. I think that doesn't mean all genes though but I'm not sure.

I just did a quick search but couldn't find anything on the subject. I dig out the magazine later to see exactly what it said.

Ok I found it but it's different than what I thought.

The halo-type that surrounds a founder mutation gets shorter over generations as chromosones mix in a process called recombination.

You can read about it here starting on page 61. The whole magazine is good.
