I think hazel eyes are common in areas there have been both blue eyed and brown eyes people ...enough
and mixing together. Like in UK and/or Central Europe. Those are rare in Scandinavian because here has not been much of brown eyed people. Opposite way also same in southern Europe (as lack of light eyed people).

I'm blue-eyed and so are my parents and grandparents.

I've always thought of hazel eyes as being a mix of brown and green. Some have a yellowish tone too.

    Hazel eyes aren't uncommon here.

My ancestors have had light eyes too ... the living ones for sure (both parents and 4 grand parents) plus also all great grand parents. Don't before them. Among of those people ... there are two who has had light gray eyes (like I posted another thread) and one who has had light green eyes.

Light blue / icy blue is a beautiful eye color.

Apparently, some black-eyed and brown-eyed people (mostly from Mexico) have been submitting themselves to a very painful and dangerous eye laser surgery (not allowed in many countries) in order to get blue eyes.

Yes, I like my eyes. But what you think about light gray eyes? Some of my Finnish Swede relatives have those.

I think they're beautiful. Is this kind of blue common among Finnish Swedes?

I like my eyes too. I can't remember if you posted a close-up of your eyes in the Post your Eyes thread. I don't think you did.

Nope; and I think those (light gray eyes) are rare everywhere. My mother's side family line just seemed to carry it. Don't either know how it will be transmitted vs other eye colors? At least I got normal light blue eyes like my dad.

Bit more about gray (or silver eyes) vs blue eyes:

Favourite eye colours, most to least:

    Mid grey
    Mid to dark blue
    Green
    Green-brown
    Hazel / light-brown
    Light blue/grey
    Dark brown

Light eyes give the feeling that the person is looking straight through you with 'laser vision' which is slightly unnerving. E.g. Helen Lederer, an English actress:

Are these blue-gray eyes, or gray-green?

They are recorded as hazel on my birth certificate and are recorded as such on all legal documents.

They change color too. Sometimes they are a much lighter gray than this depending upon the lighting. Sorry about the crappy resolution.
